Not a fan of MM.

I should probably finish TP before I start replaying the manky old N64 relics. As I recall, I left off in the Water Temple (or whatever) back in...uh, May. Yeah.

If easiness is your issue, Boo, play Master Quest. Granted, the bosses are just as easy, but it makes you think in a different way.

Anyway, I'm done harassing you. Maybe. For now. xD

How did I screw that up? I meant to type "MM" as in "Majora's Mask".

^^'Thinking' isn't really my scene...are there any puzzles that can be solved through random violence?

^ Ah. So, you like difficulty on fighting rather than puzzles?

Nevermind, then. Master Quest just has harder and different puzzles, but enemies are exactly the same, as I recall.

I've got to go with Ocarina of Time. Not only is it the best solo game on the Nintendo 64 in my opinion, but the best Zelda game I have played. In addition to that, it is ultimately that game which led me to find NintendoLand and join these forums in the first place.

OK, I've decided to go with OoT, as well. It was the first game I really got hooked and obsessed with, and as you can probably tell by the millionaire topic, I've played it way too many times for my own good.

I do love the other two games here, but OoT was the game that actually got me to be a gamer.

I actually can't vote on this one. Sure there was a huge success with Mario and Zelda going 3-D was/is very cool, but the classics are just as great. Putting that aside, Zelda and Mario are pretty equal in my book as far as the transition so again, I can't really vote on that. I've barely played Metroid so I don't know anything about the 2-D to 3-D in this one.

But I guess if I had to choose it would be Mario 64. The three caps kick freaking butt in that game. Had some very interesting levels and areas (such as the massive wall jump you need to perform to get the 7 or 8 blue coins in level 15).

As for Zelda, their games were great in 2-D as well so the transition to 3-D was still large, but I think Mario 64 perhaps outweighed it with more originality(again the caps, versus Link's same arsenal appear in 3-d).

So yeah overall Mario.

About this comment, because it's been bugging the heck out of me.

1: Prime was, especially at the time, pretty much the only important FPS on the market that didn't use a "level" system, or linear plotline. The entire game is a "go wherever the hell you feel like" sandbox situation.

2: Basically the only FPS game where your most important weapons are unlimited/charge based.

3: The only FPS game that has really put a lot of emphasis on exploring every nook and cranny since the Doom series.

4: The only FPS game that has successfully put extra emphasis on platforming.

5: Completely different targeting system from every other FPS.

6: Unique metroid style hazard-enemies, where the danger is getting too close to wild animals, and the enemies have specific weak points.

7: Scan data. On everything.

8: Weapon combinations. I don't recall any other major FPS games featuring them.

9: No stupid level loading times.

10: Its success was entirely based on its incredible single-player mode. Not something you could say for Halo, Unreal Tournament, or Quake 3 Arena.

11: Morphball, dude.

I've got a dinner to eat, so I won't go on, but I hope you get the point.

I had a feeling some of these points would come up, but you have to take my post in context. Out of the 3 genres that were transformed to 3D from 2D, Metroid Prime just had the least impact because from an average gamer's point of view, it was just another FPS game, only a person who has played the game and finished it such as you, myself and many other people here can talk about those points because we now appreciate them. SM64 and OoT were pioneers of 3D gaming, everyone could look at those games and regard them as immense achievements, benchmarks, in gaming. I just can't see Metroid Prime in that light, as good as it is.

I'd be more prone to agreeing with you if I weren't of the opinion that the N64 wasn't a capable enough system to make a decent jump from 2D to 3D, in many situations. Super Mario 64 was fun, and an interesting new way to play a Mario game, but the levels were incredibly restrictive. It was the first Mario game since SMB to reuse levels to keep players busy, and it was honestly pretty ugly even for the time. OoT might have redefined and expanded upon many of the classic aspects of the Zelda series, but its engine also just couldn't do the full environments of the previous two games in the series. There wasn't much adventuring going on there, and they gave you a horse just to speed up your traversal of the pointlessly huge empty field in the middle of the map. It wasn't as ugly as Mario 64, but it definitely wasn't a work of beauty. These are series that, before their iterations on the 64, were entirely seamless in presentation.

That's not to say Metroid Prime is a perfect representation of the gameplay in Super Metroid, because it was very limiting in comparison, but it captured the spirit of the game. The others just sort of changed everything in lieu of being able to recreate the same manner of environments or even in many instances, similar challenges.
