At the same time, though, if a console game is a graphical step downwards from the previous game in the series, I'm going to notice and be a little annoyed and bewildered by it. Especially if the game is on a supposedly-more-advanced console. __________________ Boo--the only dude bad enough to rescue the president |

That being said, I agree with the general sentiment that there's something a little...off about this game (bland is the closest word I've seen). |

Gender: Posts: 3,934 Thanks: 57 Thanked 35 Times in 22 Posts | After a few good hours with this game, I have to say that while I'm having fun with it, a lot of these negative points are quite valid. My biggest complaint is the computer's items. I usually get blue-shelled 2 to 3 times per race (that's an average of 0.833 times per lap), almost invariably with a red shell preceding or following. Multiplayer is far-and-away a better experience. I have to dissent on this point at least; I'm a big fan of the wheel. I feel just as competent using it as I do with a Gamecube controller, and I think it's a lot of fun. |

I feel like I'm getting the hang of it better now, and I'm getting better at dealing with some of these new weapons (you can even evade the blue shell, provided you have a mushroom on hand. See video below). Additionally, I've been playing around with Automatic Drift, and I have to say I quite like it. I'm honestly getting pretty tired of every Mario Kart game since the SNES and GBA (and maybe 64) versions being "reduced," in a sense, to power-slide frenzies. I've been able to post time trial times as good as, or better than, my Manual Drift runs using Auto Drift without much added effort. I can't say how well Auto could hold up in higher-level tournaments, but I guess we'll know eventually. Blue-Shell dodge: | ||

They are made of lame and SARS. It's called Mario Kart, goddamnit. Emphasis on gameplay and courses, not on lolzorz itz driving a pipe. |

Probably should just fill it out with other Nintendo characters instead. |

| Senior Member | I guess I'll have to get this soon. I've said that about...how many times now? And I like the zany karts. D: They were pretty cool in DS. Though, I've heard they're not as crazy in Wii. :shrig: |

I think I spent almost two hours playing online last night without even meaning to. I'd find a nice big group and proceed to dominate it until it would die down to only a few players. Then I'd just find new one to join. You start to get a nice feel for the skill levels of the other players if they stick around long enough. Little rivalries start to develop as the same two or three players come back time and again to challenge your grip on first. You get to know their strengths and weaknesses. The Toadette on a bike that hates being bumped, but always comes back for more. The Funky Kong that shoots way out in front but can't handle the croud if you slow him down with an item or two. The Hitler Mii that hangs out in the middle of the pack and isn't a real threat, but never passes an opportunity to hit you again if somebody else manages to spin you out. The Bowser Jr. that occationally takes the lead with a risky, difficult shortcut, but usually messes up instead and just falls off the track. The annoying Yoshi that drives the same route as you and loves to leave it covered with banana peels and fake item blocks, so you can never take the same route again on following laps. I know it'll probably never happen, but how much fun would a 12 player vgf race be? ![]() ![]() |
