I just saw this pic at the Nintendo DataBase forums:

As you can see, the controller ports are the same as on the GameCube. They would have to be in order to play games that require the GBA/GCN link cable, like Four Swords Adventures and Crystal Chronicles.

Now, that got me thinking: the new controller would have to be pretty similar to the GCN one in order to play GCN games... So do you think Nintendo will pull a Sony and just use the same controller for GCN and Revolution?

it can be likely, but I bet they are going to add a few more buttons like Sony did with the Ps2

Except not. I believe the Rev controllers are wireless. Those are extra ports for the GCN controllers.

Oh yeah, I forgot that they announced the Revolution controllers to be wireless.

So it's probably only to play GameCube games then.

I heard a rumor that the revolution will support up to 8 players on one system. Does anyone know if that's been confirmed?

There were no buttons added to the PS2 controller from the PSX controller. The analog sticks were added during the PSX era, in a model known as the Dualshock. The only difference between a PSX Dualshock and a PS2 Dualshock is the shape of the piece that goes into the system (one's more squarish, the other like a semi-circle, though I don't remember which is which. Still, either will work on either system).

^actually, the Ps2 controller had analog buttons (where you could press down on the analog sticks) but the Psx doesn't have that

Wireless? Hrm, I don't know. Unless they use a system different from the Wavebird, then it may not work. The Wavebird friggin eats batteries up.

Of course, I doubt they will use the same system for the Revolution controller, although I wouldn't be surprised if the controller followed the fashion statement of the PS3 and XBox 360.

Yes it does. And Ape Escape used them.

^^You sure about that? Mine's still going strong after 5 weeks of everyday use; flashlights & calculators are pretty much the only other battery-powered things I own that last longer.

... Five weeks??! What kind of batteries are you using?

It could be that the Wavebird I used before was my brothers, and... well, yeah. He's a rage gamer.

Then there's the matter of built-in rumble. Having THAT in will shorten battery power a LOT.

we also have to take into consideration the fact that we can obtain NES, SNES, and N64 roms for the Revolution and the controller has to be compatible with all of them. Then again, after cross referencing all of my remotes, the only button that needs to be added is a Select button from the NES and the SNES. I also hope there is a Game Boy Player type periferal that plays all GB, GBC, GBA, and DS games... but that was off topic

Capt, I thought you didn't have a GameCube.
Anyway, my WaveBird's first set of batteries lasted a pretty long time.

I think he just got one. Probably five weeks ago

I think/ hope they will let you do your own button layout. I think the Z button on the GCN controller could function as a select button. N64's Z would just be GCN's L (like in OoT and MM on the collector's disk).

If the controllers must be wireless, you can expect them to be rechargable. It's ludicrous to expect people to keep slapping batteries into one of those, especially after Nintendo's mastered the use of rechargable power sources.

Koga has a strong grasp of the obvious, Knux; you could learn something.

L007, I think Duracell. Maybe Energizer. I dunno, just whatever they had at the bookstore that day.
