I don't have a NES anymore and SNES games aren't widely available anymore. I would love to play a game like Super Metroid, but I can't easily get my hands on a copy. Besides my SNES isn't working that good anymore. ROMs are not an option for me, as I hate to play with a keyboard sitting in my computer chair, staring at my 15" monitor. Also, I wasn't saying you didn't have a point, just that you were overreacting. The games that have been GotW, were all popular, and all the ones that I've played were good ones as well. Tons of people may have played Ducktales, but they don't come here. I think it won with a 2-1 vote. I'd also like to say that there have been many 3rd party titles on the nomination lists, but 1st party titles just got more votes. Ok, they weren't as obscure as the games that get nominated now, but there were certainly games beyond Mario, Zelda and DK. |

They're the cream of the crop. If you've got something you want to see up there, nominate it. ![]() [ July 20, 2005, 05:56 PM: Message edited by: SOCCER PRACTICE ] |

MK isn't obscure, but Tecmo football and Bionic Commando are not that well known. I assume it's American football so that explains why I haven't heard of it. Maybe it was big in the states. Bionic Commando doesn't ring a bell, though a few others seem to know it. Anyway, I don't really care what's up there, but saying that it sickens you how many 1st and 2nd party games is definitely overreacting. I think being a hardcore old school/classic gamer can be just as bad as being a fanboy. |

I mean, it's still a fun, unique, challenging game, but quite a few people who've never actually played it know about what goes on in the ending. ![]() Where are these lemmings going? System-wise, Bionic Commando and Tecmo's (yes, american) football franchise were both big sellers on the NES. Being off in the Netherlands, I could see how you're not familiar with either. I don't consider myself an oldschool gamer so much as that's what I grew up with, and am familiar with. It's not like I don't play current games, either. I'd be glad to nominate something if I catch the topic on time, as well. And seriously, just because you're a mod doesn't mean you can't participate. Not to offend you, but you're still the Gameboy mod in my mind, anyway. ![]() |

Of course you can enjoy current games, just like I enjoy old school games. It's not so much offensive as it isn't making any sense at all. |

Not only is it far from true, the entire thesis of my arguement has been "People around here need to play more third party stuff", not "old school stuff". ![]() Where are these lemmings going? Anyway, this dicussion is going nowhere, but I still stand by my point that you were exaggerating when you said the first to third party ratio sickened you. |

So, It's not that the games are bad. It's that companies like Nintendo don't respect the history of their games. The biggest issue with this is, of course, that Nintendo has only forged two new franchises with the newest generation.. Animal Crossing and Pikmin. The gameplay Pikmin employs doesn't interest me. Animal Crossing was a rehash release from the N64 in Japan.. A nice game, but not exactly the same as a powerful new series like Mario or Starfox or Metroid or DKC. I don't really own many games made by Nintendo, this generation. If they make something new, I just might be all about it. Unfortunately, I pretty much see everything they're doing now to be really.. gimmicky. Which is definitely not cool. There's a handful of newer games that interest me. But I can't afford much right now. I'd love to hit the PS2 market, if I could. I don't even have an X-box. Guaranteed I'll play anything newer on the GCN if I can, though. It was stupid of Sony to use the same Dual Shock design for the PS2 controllers.. Especially when most of the games really require you to use a stick. </End Rant> ![]() [ July 22, 2005, 04:25 PM: Message edited by: SOCCER PRACTICE ] | |

I think the GameCube had good sequels to sports and party titles (1080, Wave Race, Mario Kart, SSBM), but the sequels of their main franchises were subpar. And like you said there aren't many new franchises. |
