Hebner, Vince, and Shawn still get "You screwed Bret" chants. Montrealians will never forget that. Ever. Vince just ****ed with them more than once. He has repeated the situation about a zillion times. The mans a feaking moron. |

That's where the money is now - T-shirts, action figures, and so on. Why do you think Cena held the belt for the better part of two years? Kids adore him. Kids get their parents to buy products. Cena basically printed money, hence his untouchable face status (which will probably resume at Wrestlemania). In terms of catering to wrestling fans and the like, Vince has certainly lost touch with his audience (or at least those who attend events/buy PPVs). If it's true that he has significant control over TV scripts and match results, then only he can be blamed for the abyssmal TV ratings, poor PPV buy rates, and general discontentedness from his long-term fans over the company's direction. |

First Bret Hart signed a 20 year contract renewal (which included finishing his wrestling career, then moving to a behind the scene role). WWE later realized they couldn't afford the contract, so they encouraged Bret to seek employment at WCW. However, McMahon was worried Bret would bring the title to Nitro, so he made sure that Bret would lose the title with or without his blessing. You can read what's considered to be the definitive timeline (written by Dave Meltzer) here WWE.com also has a retrospective up (complete with comment from Bret): Part 1 Part 2 What If Last edited by Sean P Kelly; 11-30-2007 at 04:28 PM.
