If you took a poll from a group of Console gamers, and asked what their favorite RPG's are, you'll hear names like Chrono Trigger, FF, Grandia, etc. Take the same poll with a group of PC gamers, you'll her names like Ultima and Elder Scrolls. The rpg's on console have become a far different genre. PC gamers view console rpgs as a mutilation of what a role playing game is supposed to be. Most PC rpgs focus on 100% custimization and total Non-Linear game play. They view the non replay value of rpgs like FF that follow the storyline to progress in the game, where the characters and their stats are already made up; it's like a learning center for the the true rpg's, or like having a good glass of chocolate milk but adding far too much milk; the chocolate taste is ruined.

Most Elder Scrolls thrive on network and online community. It's total Non Linear gameplay and extreme depth (FF doesn't even touch it) Can be confusing and the game takes large amounts of time to learn. It is focused on free roaming and do what you will gameplay. But this kind of game has never really made it to consoles before. Does Morrowind have hwat it takes to make it??

Your thoughts.

I hope so. Based on the bad publicity it's been getting lately however, you would probably think otherwise, but it should still be a sucess nevertheless.

I don't think what has or has not been done on consoles before is relevant. (FWIW, I've gotten more replay value out of your average Square SNES RPG than I have from most others, save for Koei's games, though.) The bigger issue is how Bethesda handles the console world, and that remains to be seen.

Based on how Bethesda has been behaving lately, it doesn't seem as if they're ready for this console thing. The company's intention was to release a game as quickly as possible, make it's money, and then release patches for the game later. Fortunately, however, Microsoft put an immediate stop on the situation and straightened the developer out quickly. No framerate/bug fixes= no game release. Plain and simple.

As much as I'm looking foward to Morrowind, I don't see this game doing much for people. Most people just won't see the brilliance in it. They would rather play linear/predictably plotted RPGs like Final Fantasy and Grandia 2. Morrowind will fly right over their heads. I can guarantee that.

49.99 in the US.

I think it will suceed, basically because the new exposure to such RPG's is new to consoles, and many people have been turning heads at "same old, Same old." Also, with people on consoles gearing toward online play, MOrrowind is a goood choice. I've also heard PC gamers say they might buy the X so that they can play morrowind while avoiding the hardware issues of PC's.

Elder Scrolls have a biig name on PCs already. bethesda, I believe, is new to consoles.

From Reviews I've read, and form actually playing it on the Xbox, as of now, I must bow to Bethesda; this is probably the best game I've ever played. Literally. I haven't seen too much hype (no commercials) but I have seen some posters at our local funco. Maybe it'll draw interest later in the month. Make a name for itself (it already has a large fanbase on the pc though)

I woulda figured that most PC gamers would have said Baldur's Gate II or something for best RPG.

The few people I've talked to mentioned that Elder Scrolls (PC version) is a resource whore. The employee at Gamestop I talked to said his 1.0Gig Athelon was having major slowdowns. Games like this one and Shenmue 2 are the reasons I bought an xbox.
