Well it's official, Microsoft bought Rare, and all Rares stock from Nintendo. Donkey Kong and Starfox will probably stay as Nintendos licensed characters and will stay on Gamecube, but I'm not sure about Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark. I believe those two are X-box bound...

Proof? That would be great if it is true but I have been told that many times before and found out it was just a rumour.

Rare cannot announce anything until the complete details are finalized and they know who's getting what properties.

I posted my opinion of this under the Nintendoland Main forum, but what the heck:

Rare...bought...by...MICROSOFT?! Oh, well, I'll jut have to look on the bright side of this. It'll just give me another reason to buy an Xbox, up with Toejam and Earl III and Ninja Gaiden.

The good thing is I wanted to get Toejam and Earl III. I might just get an X Box because of this.

yay. But I wish they'd but SQUARE.... or someone who's really good. All I hope is that they get rights to PD2 and maybe Banjo.

I don't think a Square buyout makes much sense any more.

Rare's way better than Square. Look at square's latest blunders. Final Fantasy (the movie) (Yeah lets spend a **** load of money and not think of a decent plot.), FFXI (Failing online game in Japan)(Oh, finally somthing different from all the other FMV sequences of every other Square game. It's about damn time.) The Bouncer(need I say more), and not final but definately least the plummeting FF series(Another story driven game with beautiful movie sequences, yet still the same old basic turn based "action"(oh, yeah its there! somewhere?). A game that uses its name to sell.

Look at Rare the only bad thing they have going for them was DK64, well and maybe the DK racing games, but other then those everything else is top notch.

Heres whats going to X-box:

Quote:
Rare will retain the rights to Banjo Kazooie, Conker, and Perfect Dark. You will no longer see new games with these licenses on Nintendo systems. Rare owns these licenses.

How exactly has FFXI failed?

They got the name from somewhere (mostly Sony).

This DK64 nonsense again? And DKR is among the better games on the system (okay, so that might not be saying much).

Square is better than Rare.

It hasn't failed yet.

Square got their name with FF3, SMRPG, and FF7.

DKR is among the better games on any system.

Nor is there any logical reason to believe it will fail.

Square got their mass market appeal from Sony. Prior to their involvement with Sony, they were isolated from much of the market (1/4 of their market is now the previously non-existant Europe, for example) and had limited marketing support. Neither FF3 nor SMRPG are in the same ballpark as any of the PSX FF games.
