The records for each game are as follows: (H:MM:SS) NES Legend of Zelda (0:34:04) Adventures of Link (1:12:10) SNES Link to the Past (1:39:47) GB Link's Awakening (1:30:36) GBC Link's Awakening DX (1:45:32) Oracle of Seasons (2:06:40) GBA The Minish Cap (2:45:xx) N64 Ocarina of Time (4:57:xx) Majora's Mask (3:37:xx) Videos of all of these speed runs can be found here: http://speeddemosarchive.com/GameList.html RIP John Beatz 1974-2005 Last edited by masterlink; 03-02-2006 at 02:50 AM. |

Ugh, this topic reminded me of Da Metroid. |

My second time took four. Since then, I've never bothered timing myself. __________________ Boo--beware, he lives Last edited by Booyakasha; 03-03-2006 at 03:37 PM. |

The sole purpose of speed runs is to sap the last life of enjoyment that you can out of this 'endangered species' of games. Once you've played through it normally NUMEROUS times, you want to try something different. Why not take the easy way out?: Do it as fast as humanly possible. Props to Nintendo for making a game that is absolutely impossible to beat in under 4 hours. That doesn't really look like a 'speed run', does it? Nevertheless, they are all fun videos to watch. The only speed run I've ever attempted was Super Mario Bros. But it's a bit hard to 'speed beat' a game, if you can't 'BEAT' the game in the first place... |

Yeah, but it's 'OoT'. That's like saying, "Props to those bakers for making a huge cake that tastes lousy. Thanks to them, we all get giant slices of cake that we don't want to eat." Oh, and not that it's on subject, but their supposed win-time for 'Blast Corps' is flawed. Whoever runs the website has apparently decided that adding up all of his best times equals a speed run, which it doesn't. A legitimate speed run would feature some clown playing through the game from start to finish, which would be utterly impossible in forty-five minutes, inasmuch as a) at least half of the stages require two or more plays (once to beat the level, once to unlock bonus levels, and b) you have to have a gold rating in every level before you can open up the space levels. Anybody who claims they've fully beaten 'Blast Corps', all platinums, in under eight or nine hours is talking cack. __________________ Boo--beware, he lives | |

Lots of people today don't like the non-linear feel of it, but, at the time, that was part of the appeal--my pals and I would talk about it constantly at lunch and on the bus, trying to figure out where all the cool items from the opening crawl (especially the Magic Sword) were, where the ninth dungeon was, whether the 2nd Quest was real or mere rumour. There was nothing like it, not for a long time. __________________ Boo--beware, he lives |
