| Godly Member | What exactly was the wind fish? Looking back now on the zelda lore...I'm starting to believe the wind fish is pretty much useless sitting on top of that mountain unhatched. Anyone got any theories? |

Description: The Wind Fish is gigantic winged whale with elaborate body markings and covered with ornate jewelry. The Wind Fish is believed to be nearly as old as Hyrule itself. The Wind Fish slept within the Wind Fish Egg on Koholint Island until Link used the eight Instruments of the Sirens to wake it from its slumber. The mystical creature then took to the sky, and has not been seen since. |

Or rather it could be just some metaphysical construct that Link creates in order to escape a dream. After all, if Link's Awakening is but a dream, and dreams are quite frequently nonsensical, why do we have to ascribe some deeper meaning to it to begin with? |

![]() The whole of Link's Awakening is a dream. Either Link's dream, or the Wind Fish's dream. Read the title. The Wind Fish slumbers, Link needs to wake it. You travel around the island, with telephones in trees and talking animals, and fight "Nightmares". The Nightmares make it very apparent that they don't want you to wake the Wind Fish, they want to exist forever. By waking the Wind Fish, Link wakes himself. It's representative of Link's struggle to awaken after his ship wreck. Or, the Wind Fish is a magical creature which slumbers, and in doing so traps Link on the dream isle of Koholint. By waking it, you are freed from the dream, and the Wind Fish is no longer tormented by the nightmares. Either way, it basically means the same thing. Whether or not the Wind Fish is a construct of Link's subconscious is left up to your own preference. | |

| Godly Member | No, link's awakening is not a dream. But seriously, why the hell did Link decide to help the wind fish? It's just so....useless! Didn't he just get there by accident after his ship crashed????? And doesn't the fact that putting a sea creature up in the sky seem a lot like when the boys of southpark put shamoo on the moon? So quite possibly, link screwed over the wind fish and is now lying dead next to shamoo on the moon. |
