I feal that the cel-shading help convey the feeling that you are playing a fantasy game. I never once felt that the game was childish while I was playing it. There were some artistic flaws, where I felt something were misrepresented, and could have been done better, the Deku Tree for instance. The main fear I have, is that Zelda is loosing it's Mideveal roots. Obviously, the setting of this game forced that, but it still worries me a bit.

You're going to see some things, PZoH, which will change how you look at him and the game's graphic engine in general. Trust me.

The reason I believe WW has better art than OoT is for the same reason why books tend to be more impressive than their movie counterparts -- they leave more to the imagination because movies are forced to give a visual image that may or may not be what we expect. With books, we fill in the visual in our mind.

Much the same for WW. Sure, the polygons are almost completely invisible. You'll be hard approached to find them in this game. But much more than that, by shading a patch of grass all green, your mind has an easier time imagining the totality of the grass -- filling in the details -- rather than when you shade all of Hyrule Field with the same texture map in just about every tile -- where you're limited to the colouration they present.

Okay, Wyborn. We'll see about that whenever I actually get around to playing the game again.

I agree that Zelda is starting to lose its Medieval roots. They're adding a lot more "modern" bits, like color cameras and some of the clothing styles. But it doesn't bother me that much; the modern bits mixed with ancient touches stress the separation of the Zelda world from ours. I'd think it would be too much of a stretch, though, if they added televisions and skyscrapers.

Since when was Zelda a medival game. It could take place in the future for all we know. Zelda has alwaYS had it's modern cameos such as telephones in LA, neon lights in OoT, and don't get me started on MM. And LttP, Hyrule didn't look medival at all. It didn't even look European! It looked like some kind of Azteccan culture. It's a fantasy game. That's all I know.

The graphics kinda grow on you.

However... I think OOT is still greater, in the end. The reason WW is so great is that it draws strongly off of OOT. It just wouldn't feel the same if it was a game by itself.

Just think of the ending to understand.

Interesting to hear all the opinions.. although some people seem to argue simply because they can. My opinion is that windwaker is a more solid presentation than ocarina of time, and I greatly enjoy that. The texturing is believable, there are ACTUAL TREES (although not many of them.. because of the island theme.. seems like a lousy excuse if you ask me), and everything is much much less ghetto. Nintendo never should have used the Mario64 engine for Oot and MM. Color banding scares me. However, I'm against the push for link to become some sort of green pikachu. No one takes him seriously. I barely find that I can, given the simplistic interpretations of him. The art style is in many cases even ok with me. BUT LINK LOOKS PATHETIC. I'm just so overly annoyed by it. Just go back and look in your Link to the Past strategy guides.. see the pictures telling the stories of previous Zelda games? I like those ones much much more... than the football head on a jelly bean.

Link's look is the only thing I don't like. It sorta reminds of classic LOZ Link but it was a little too stylized. Even for WW. Zelda looked kinda freaky too. Both looked ten times better in the official player's guide artwork.
