Well, I was playing Wind Waker for a couple days and got to the part where you saw the sages perform their instruments with their ancestors.

Medlli predecessor looked like a Zora, like Ruto (gasp, cough, cough), except the name was a little different. Laruto, I think?

And Makar's predecessor looked like a Kokiri, except he looked more like Mido than Saria.

So then I started thinking, why make different sages than the ones from Ocarina of Time? I began to think that maybe the original sages lost their power and began to die, so they assigned new people in their place.

But why only TWO sages? There are seven in Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past (and any other Zelda game I can't think of). I thought maybe that during the time that Hyrule began to flood, maybe the two weakest sages were sent to the mountains (Ruto and Saria and Zelda (also assuming that Zelda is a sage in Wind Waker), altough I son't believe that one sage overpowers another, you'd lose the balance). Maybe the other sages stayed behind to watch over Hyrule, and make sure that Ganon never returned.

But maybe the sages died while doing their task, even if it has only been about one-hundred years time difference from the end of Ocarina of Time to the beginning of Wind Waker, perhaps they died when Ganon managed to escape his prison and go to the Forsaken Fortress.

And also, when you pull out the Master Sword, the FIVE statues point their sword to you. I'm thinking this is for the five sages that were able to stay behind. This may be just because that's the only way Nintendo could format the room so it looked nice. But maybe Zelda could have been in the middle, just behind the Master Sword, one statue in the middle...oh geez, let me see if I can draw this...

Here is the original room.
--------------------------------
/ ------------- \
/ / O \ \
/ / O Z O \ \
{ / M \ }
{ \ / }
{ \ O O/ }
{ \ N "A" N / }
\ ------------- /
\ -------- [ ] -------- /
\ [ stairs ] /
\ [ ] /
----------- -----------

Legend: M: Master Sword
O: Original Statue
Z: Where Zelda should go
N: The two other statues should go on top of arch
A: Arch over the entrance to the Pedestal

Um, I think that does it, sorry if the spacing turns out bad. These are just thoughts, so I'm open to suggestion...

CRAP! I just looked at what it's going to look like... Well, it WAS supposed to be a circle. Just think of that room and where all the statues are, put Zelda behind the Master Sword, build an arch over the entrance, and then put two statues on the arch. And I worked for a half hour on that thing....::hits head against desk:: I'll just leave it there for people to make fun of me... ::hides under table::

I wondered what happned to the other Sages as well.

Laruto is obviously related to Ruto, but she went from Water Sage to Earth sage. Fado (the Kokiri in WW) resembles Mido in both looks and name. I think it was Kukurio who noticed that they are also two notes that follow each other: Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti. Maybe Mido followed Saria first and then Fado followed Mido.

As for the other sages, I don't have a clue what happened to them. And actually hundreds of years have passed since OoT not exactly one-hundred years.

There's also another interesting thing I noticed in that room. All the OoT sages have the emblem of their race in the top of their window. Most of them were like I always thought:

- Kokiri: swirl you see on Deku Shield (=Kokiri's Emerald)
- Gorons: symbol you see on the shoulders of the Gorons (= Goron's Ruby)
- Zora: symbol above King Zora in Zora's domain (= Zora's sapphire)
- Sheikah: eye as seen on gossip stones and the Mask of Truth.
- Hylians: Triforce with some decoration around it

Now here's the surprise:

- Gerudos: NOT the crescent moon and star I always thought was the symbol. I don't know exactly what the symbol is and I cannot relate it to anything I've seen in OoT.

No, I read an interview by Miyamoto and he said that about one-hundred years have passed since Ocarina of Time.
I may have read it wrong though.

Are you the Gatekeeper? Are you the Keymaster?

Gk, could you reformat your "circluar" room and put

(using [] brackets instead) tags? It'll format it all nice for you.

There are only two sages perhaps because only two were needed to take care of the Master Sword. I would also imagine that because of the flooding all the access to the other temples lost their access except Earth and Wind temples which still had extra entries high up in the mountians.

I don't think Laruto went from Water to Earth as in crossing from one temple to the other. Rather that the Temple itself switched elements. I've down some map comparassions between ooT and WW (which left me with many headaches) and I've noticed the Earth Tempkle correlates around the same area as the Water Temple. Perhaps they're the same temple?

The Gerudo symbol is the crescent mmoon but with the war on terrorism and all...

The King of Hyrule says in the game that hundreds of years have passed.

What evidence do you have that that's the Gerudo symbol.

If they took it away because of war on terrorism it would be very racist because it would be implying that either terrorists are all Arabian or that all Arabians are terrorists.

The other sages were left out *sad sigh* most likely due to time constraints.

They can't have all died off, because we still see their descendants (or, descendants of their replacements) in A Link to the Past.

Perhaps the others were around, but you never had to go meet them. They could have been random villagers. It just so happens only two were needed to keep the Master Sword powerful... one in each of two Main Temples (Earth and Wind).

Maybe they don't want to stir up trouble. I wouldn't know. The crescent moon was a cool symbol either way. I hate the fact they took it out of Zelda all of the sudden on Gamecube.

What is their symbol now? I hope it's not that stupid skimask symbol.

Wouldn;'t that be religionism or something. Bah!

I think Nintendo is trying to steer clear of religion. Link's sheild used have a cross on it. Now it doesn't anymore. But if that was the case they might as well take out the triforce from the series as well. That's Shinto symbol right there!
