Zelda Mafia

Have any of you ever played the forum\chatroom game, mafia before?
Let me explain.
You start with a group of players. Everyone gets a secret role. Some of them are good guys, and some of them are Mafia. Each player gets a special ability that only they can use.

During the day, the towns folk try to figure out who amoung them is a mafia member in disguise by looking at clues they've picked up and watching for people to make a mistake. If more than half the players vote for somebody, then they are lynched and thrown out of the game.

During the night, you arn't allowed to talk. However, this is when most players can use their special abilities. It's also when the mafia gets to choose one person to kill off.

If you're a townie, then your goal is to hunt down every last mafia member.
If you're a mafia member then you win if the remaining mafia ever out number the remaining townies.
It's an epic clash between good vs. evil.

I've played a few rounds of this game on another board, so I thought it might be fun to set up a Zelda themed game.

Sign up if you're interested in playing, but be warned; depending on how many people sign up, mafia can be a very long game and it requires attention from it's players. Don't sign up unless you believe you'll be around to actually play.

I'm still deciding on whether I should use characters from a certain game, or if I should just use them from the entire series. Let me know what you think. At the moment, I'm leaning towards OoT because pretty much everyone is familiar with it's characters, but if enough people want to do something else I'll take it into consideration.

So start signing up! The size of the game will be determined by how much interest there is.

While knowing about the theme a mafia game is based on can make it more fun, it's not required to play. So even if you arn't a big Zelda fan, you're still welcome to join in.

Ah, I remember reading about this; it was one of it's other alias' werewolf. I was thinking about starting it in the Misc forum, but I thought either there would be too many PMs flooding my inbox, or that only two people would sign up. =\

Not at all. I think most people will be playing for the first time.

This is a good start. We need at least 10 people to play, but anything more than that just makes it better. I'll start keeping track of the signups.

I'm in. But I'm for it taking place in a Majora's Mask context: that game lent itself more readily to morbid, paranoid persecution of the common people by the common people. Works really well juxtaposed against the game's heavy emotional impact.

You're right, Majora's mask would be perfect for a mafia game. The only thing that might stop me would be that such a small game would have trouble capturing the atmosphere. MM may actually have too many cool characters. I'll take it into consideration.

When the game begins, you'll be sent a PM telling you what your role is. The roles get chosen at random. Alright, just one more needed to begin, any more than that will just improve the game.

And that's it! I'm going to leave the sign-up open for another day or two while I set up the roles. That way we might get a few more people joining, because this game really does improve the more people that play it.
