Hyrulian War, for those of you who never heard of it (and haven't read this little beauty), is an online role-playing game based on the Zelda series. Imagine, if you will, a parallel universe version of Hyrule, one untouched by the corrupting hand of Ganon. The races of this realm (the Hylians, Kokiri, Gorons, Zora, Gerudo, and the Undead) have never needed to unite against the encroachment of evil, and have thus grown up to be independent, proud and war-like. Inevitably, the peoples of this world overgrew their ancestral homes and spilled forth into Greater Hyrule, raring for conquest and ready to fight. The game opens at this point, with each race about to step forth onto the path of destiny... ...ahem. The object of the game is to defeat the other nations of Hyrule; you must capture territories, deploy and move troops across the map, and do battle with your enemies. This topic, as you'll note, is a sign-up; Wy and I want to know who'd be interested in playing HW here at VGF. If we're going to actually do this, we'll need at least six players (at least one per race). We hope to start some time next week. So what are you waiting for? Sign up already. SIGNED UP-- Marilink: Kokiri General Blake: Goron General Wyborn: Gerudo General i_am_nobody: Undead General Cravdraa: Zora General Booyakasha: Hylian General (TEMPORARY) Daos: Kokiri Freelancer Tazy 10: Zora Freelancer Jaguar: Hylian Freelancer That Guy: Undead Freelancer STILL NEEDED-- as many Freelancers as want to play Remember, we need at least six players. More are certainly welcome. And if you have any questions on the rules, just ask me. I'll try to update this topic at least twice a day. (EDIT: Freelancer assignments up-to-date as of 12-18-07.) __________________ Boo--the only dude bad enough to rescue the president Last edited by Booyakasha; 12-18-2007 at 11:59 AM. |

Any position is fine, so if someone else wants to be General they can feel free to be. But, if no one else does take the position, then fill me in on some of the rules for Generals if they were any different in the first, I don't recall much more than the ones based on stats in some of the later ones. |

**MINI-DEMO THING*** I'm warmod. Hylian Hal is in charge of the Hylians. Kokiri Kevin is in charge of the Kokiri. Goron Gus is in charge of the Gorons. Freelancer Fred works for the Hylians as an 'irregular' unit, harassing the enemies of the Hylians. Imagine the following as the 'opening moves' in a war (and bear in mind, the formulae I'm using here will probably be different than those that I'll use later on). ------------------------------------------------------- Warmod: INAUGURAL HYLIAN GAZETTE!!! 10-27-07 8:00 PM The Hyrulian War is now underway. The Hylian Army has 1100 troops at their main base (Hyrule Castle) and 100 troops at their other starting territories (Hyrule Castle Town East, Hyrule Castle Town West). They currently control three territories, earning them (3/3)*100=100 rupees. They possess 100 units of materials. They employ one Freelancer, costing them 1*10=10 rupees per round; this penalty will go into effect next round. The Kokiri Army has 1000 troops at their main base (Kokiri Village) and 100 troops at each of their starting territories (Lost Woods, Sacred Forest Meadow). They currently control three territories, earning them (3/3)*100=100 rupees. They possess 100 units of materials. The Goron Army has 1000 troops at their main base (Goron City) and 100 troops at each of their starting territories (Death Mountain North, Death Mountain South). They currently control three territories, earning them (3/3)*100=100 rupees. They possess 100 units of materials. Proceed. ---------------------------------------------------- Hylian Hal: Right on, let's rock! I send 300 troops from Hyrule Castle to Hyrule Castle Town East and 300 to Hyrule Castle Town West. I then send 100 troops from HCTE to Northwest Hylian Field, and fortify them with 100 troops from HCTW. Let's see...um, I'm going to spend 80 rupees on additional troops (OOC: where do new troops start out?) ----------------------------------------------------- Goron Gus: Hey, why did the Hylians start out with 100 extra troops? Whatever; either way, they are doomed. You will now face the twin-pronged attack of Goron might and diplomacy. I send 800 troops from Goron City to Death Mountain South, and 100 troops from DMS to Kakariko City (let's see how those crumb-snatching Hylians like *them* apples). Next, I'll use my 100 rupees to buy 20 in materials. Finally, I would like to extend full diplomatic courtesy to the Kokiri and offer them alliance. Want to get in on the winning team, Kevin? ----------------------------------------------------- Freelancer Fred: Fred infiltrates Kakariko City; in the chaos surrounding the Goron occupation, he goes unnoticed. Fred makes quick allies among those Kakariko citizens displeased with the occupation, leading them to rise up in a beautifully-choreographed revolutionary conflagration and throw the Gorons out of Kakariko village. ------------------------------------------------------ Kokiri Kevin: SWEET! I'm allying with Gus! Goron might and Kokiri no-how FTW! I'm sending 500 troops from Kokiri Village to Hyrule Field East, and 500 to Lost Woods. the 100 troops in SFM can move to Kokiri Village. -------------------------------------------------------- Warmod: HH, all new troops start out at the main base. GG, the Hylians started out with 100 additional units because that's their racial advantage. The Hylians have extra men, Gorons deal more damage, Kokiri automatically gain materials--that's how it works. FF, you can't eliminate the Goron presence in Kakariko entirely; however, your revolutionary activities make it so the Gorons have to retain at least 30 troops in Kakariko at all times, or it will revert to a neutral territory. KK, you're not allowed to move 500 men directly from Kokiri Village to E Hylian Field, because they're not adjacent. I'm putting them in Lost Woods; you can send them to E Hylian Field next turn. Now, without further ado... HYLIAN GAZETTE 2!!!! 10-28-07, 8:00 AM EXTRA!! Gorons and Kokiri form alliance! EXTRA!! Trouble in Kakariko Village--Goron Army Diverted to Supress Insurrection! EXTRA!! Thunderstorms over Burmunica City! Any troop movements to or from Burmunica suffer a 10% loss from lightning strikes! Hylians: +1 territory, +20 troops FINANCES: (100-80) + (4/3)*100 = 153; 153-10 = 143 rupees TERRITORIES: Hyrule Castle 520, HCTW 300, HCTE 300, NW Hylian Field 200 RESOURCES: 100 Gorons: +1 territory, +20 materials FINANCES: (100-100) + (4/3)*100 = 133; 133+20 bonus for Kakariko Village = 153 rupees TERRITORIES: Goron City 200, DMN 100, DMS 800, Kakariko 100 RESOURCES: 120 Kokiri: + 1 territory FINANCES: (100-0) + (4/3)*100 = 233 rupees TERRITORIES: Kokiri Forest 100, Lost Woods 1000, E Hylian Field 100, Sacred Forest Meadow 0 RESOURCES: 100 + 10 (racial bonus) = 110 ----------------------------------------------------- KK: Sorry about the mix-up. Better double-check the map from now on. I send 800 troops to E Hylian Field from Lost Woods; I then split my E hylian field force up, sending fifty apiece to NE Hylian Field and SE Hylian Field. Then I train 50 troops (*hands over 200 rupees*). Can I sell resources? Because I don't see the use of them... ----------------------------------------------------- FF: I wanted to liberate Kakariko! Grrr... Oh well. I'm leaving Kakariko; just tying down the Gorons doesn't do it for me. Fred departs Kakariko Village for NE Hylian Field. Once there, he launches a one-man campaign of terror against the Kokiri force encamped there--screaming horribly in the middle of the night, throwing burning coals onto tents, flinging rocks at passing soldiers, beating up the odd sentry, and (on one occasion) knocking over the hitching post where the officers' horses were tied, causing them to wander off. -------------------------------------------------------- GG: Yeah, you'd better run, Fred. My 800 troops in Death Mountain South move to Kakariko Village; the 100 troops already there march on Hylian Field N. I want to use my resources to build some kind of cool weapon--can I do that? Well, whatever. I'm trading in 100 rupees for resources, and 20 for troops, leaving me with 33 for my rainy day fund. ------------------------------------------------------ HH: Hot double damn! Gus, you're going down! I send 400 men from Hyrule Castle; 200 to HCTE, 200 to HCTW. Move the 600 men from HCTE + HCTW into NW Hylian Field. Next, I'm attacking the Goron force in N Hylian Field with 200 troops from NW Hylian Field. Should mop them up no problem. --------------------------------------------------------- Warmod: FF, your highly effective campaign of terror causes 10 men to desert the Kokiri force at NW Hylian Field. GG, you can use your resources to build anything within reason. Tell me what you want to build; I'll give you estimates on building time and resource requirements. KK, you can sell resources to whoever wants them. There's no set price for buying from each other--work something out. Of course, if you're so inclined, you could put them to use building new toys for your army. Ahem... HYLIAN GAZETTE 3!!!! 10-28-07, 8:00 PM EXTRA!! Unrest in Kakariko Quashed! Ringleader Still at Large! EXTRA!! Battle in North Hylian Field! Goron Force Wiped Out--Hylian Force Reduced to 90! EXTRA!! Earthquakes at Desert Colossus! Troop Movements to or from Desert Colossus Impossible! Hylians: + 1 territory, - 110 troops FINANCES: 143 + (5/3)*100 = 310 rupees; 310-10=300 rupees TERRITORIES: Hyrule Castle 120, HCTE 200, HCTW 200, NW Hylian Field 600, N Hylian Field 90 RESOURCES: 100 Gorons: - 100 troops, + 5 troops, + 20 materials FINANCES: (153-120) + (4/3)*100 = 166; 166 + 20 bonus for Kakariko = 186 rupees TERRITORIES: Goron City 205, N Death Mountain 100, S Death Mountain 0, Kakariko Village 800 RESOURCES: 140 Kokiri: - 10 troops, + 50 troops, + 2 territories FINANCES: (233-200) + (6/3)*100 = 233 rupees TERRITORIES: Kokiri Forest 150, Lost Woods 200, SFM 0, E Hylian Field 800, NE Hylian Field 40, SE Hylian Field 50 RESOURCES: 110 + 10 = 120 -------------------------------------------- And so on. Bear in mind that, by the time this beast actually starts up, I'll have a map drawn up that we can either post on the forums or send out to the participants. Do you see a little better how it works? More importantly, are any of you interested? __________________ Boo--the only dude bad enough to rescue the president Last edited by Booyakasha; 10-17-2007 at 11:48 PM. | |

I expect to participate in some way though, so if we're still allowing for RPs then I'm down in that regard. No generaling though. I did about 20 wars of it anyway. |

I would totally be interested in being the Kokiri general. One concern: Can generals RP just as much as the footsoldiers do? Because that would just suck if they could only do tactics and stuff. |

You also get to do the whole diplomacy thing--forming and breaking alliances; wheeling and dealing for troops, resources, and territories; attracting Freelancers to your cause from the forums; any number of things, honestly. It's a clash of numbers, to be sure, but also at least somewhat a battle of wills. Aside from that, I'd encourage you to play in character as much as you like. Feel free to make fiery speeches of prophetic doom for your enemies as you send your men into battle; describe yourself riding a night-black charger at the head of a company of armored horseman amid throngs of cheering people after liberating the Lost Woods from Zora invaders; dream up meetings with chief advisors, interrupted at odd moments by bedraggled scouts bearing reconaissance reports. I can't claim it'll change the outcome, but it will make it more fun for you and everyone else. I ask only that you not couch your meaning too ornately; if I can't figure out what you're trying to say, the game isn't going to work. Finally, if even all of that isn't enough for you, I will consider (that's consider, mind you) allowing the general for each race to run a freelance character for any side he likes, so long as you all remember to draw a clear and obvious distinction between your actions as Modern Major General and your actions as Magilla Guerilla. Continue signing up, gentle forumers. There's plenty of positions remaining. [EDIT: Should I put you down for Kokiri General, Marilinik? Currently, the only other person who expressed interest is Cravdraa, but a) he said he didn't care whether he got the Kokiri or the Zora, and b) seriously, it's Cravdraa--who cares what he wants?] __________________ Boo--the only dude bad enough to rescue the president |

The roleplaying, however (in my opinion) will make the game much more interesting for it'll help develop characters, interesting confrontations with others, and will make alliances and grudges more realistic. Oh yeah, and sign me up for the Goron Four Star General. I want to get this show underway! |
