Tomorrow and Friday, I'm going to finalise the new formulae and post the revised ruleset here. I'll also be putting together those generals' data packets a la HW1 and sending them out via PM. Once that's all done, I'll be ready as hell to shove this pig out onto the show-floor. Generals, post here once you've read this so I know you're still We're still accepting players, by the way--if anyone's just stumbled in here for the first time, if anyone already playing knows anyone who's up for a bit of RP and carnage, there's always room. I'd only ask that you sign up here and not in the eventual 'WAR ITSELF!!' topic, O my brothers. __________________ Boo--the only dude bad enough to rescue the president |

SP, TG, anyone: if you want it, it's yours. I'll take it otherwise, but the option is there for you. |

Once you hire them, you lose control over their activities, save that you're allowed to fire them at any point. They, in turn, are free to act as they see fit--however, as non-regular troops, they receive no racial or attribute bonuses and cannot act in your name (say, by claiming territory for your nation). Put yourself in General Washington's shoes--you can't tell the Swamp Fox what to do, but you're glad as hell he's on your side. __________________ Boo--the only dude bad enough to rescue the president |

After generaling last round, I want to get a different feel for the game. Anyone who wants to be a Kokiri general, let me know. And then hire me. I like my character a lot--I'm going to use Aaric again in my roleplays no matter what. |

| Mod of War Join Date: Nov 2000 Location: Wisconsinland Gender: Posts: 6,812 Thanks: 75 Thanked 340 Times in 221 Posts | Revised Ruleset and Formulae--Generals All right, let's get down to brass tacks and rat-killin'. This war is going to proceed in much the same fashion as last war. Generals take one turn per round. I process 'turns' in the order I receive them, so those of you who post your updates early get the advantage of hitting first; on the other hand, later posters have the advantage of seeing and reacting to what the other people do. It's a trade-off. Your main duties as general are to decide how you want to allocate money and resources, and to capture territory. At the start of each round, you receive 100 rupees for every 3 territories you control (or 33 apiece). This is the same as what happened during HW1. Rupees are used to train new troops and pay Freelancer fees. When HW2 starts, you'll only be able to train regular infantry for the first few months; new units (such as archers and cavaliers) will appear later on in the war. Infantry: 4 rupees/unit Resources are going to be handled a sight differently this time around. Whereas in the last round resources were available to be bought on the open market, they will not in HW2; rather, in HW2, you will receive a one-time bonus of 25 resources for each new territory you take over. This makes for a finite amount, of course, so make sure to use them wisely. (Resources may end up regenerating over time. We'll see.) Each nation starts out with its three ancestral territories (those being the extremities of the map), 100 resources, and some twelve-hundred odd troops or so. Combat is going to work the same this war as it was in the past. When one army attacks another, I first roll a die; on a 1 or 2, the attacking army is repelled, and both sides lose 10% of their forces. On a 3 or higher, the attack succeeds; I then total up the Damage Potential on both sides (base Damage Potential for a single infantry unit is 1; some units will have higher DP due to racial advantage or attribute bonuses). The side with the lower DP loses the fight automatically, dealing damage to the enemy corresponding to the formula (lower DP squared)/(higher DP). For instance, let's say 300 Goron infantry attack a Hylian force of 200. Hylian DP is 200; Goron DP is 330 (300 base, plus 10% because of their racial ability). All the Hylians are killed; before they fall, though, they manage to kill 121 of their attackers. ((200^2)/330 = 121.2) I know, it may seem needlessly complex, but it's worked a treat so far--besides, a simple subtraction formula would favor the losers. Random Encounters and Environmental Alerts are returning. For the former, I roll a die three times; first to determine the army affected, then to determine the nature of the encounter (hostile, friendly, or neutral), and finally to determine the scale. For the latter, I roll a die once, to see which army is going to be affected. We'll start out with one of each; there may be more later on. Freelancer fee's up to 20 rupees per round. Any questions, post 'em here. I'm hoping to start this thing up some time next week, once TML's back from his expedition to the Pole. (By the way, you new players--don't let this all intimidate you. I know it seems like a lot to remember, but a) I do most of the calculations and everything myself, b) you're always welcome to ask me any questions you have at all, whether in the topic or via PM, and c) at the end of the day, it's a game. Don't be afraid to make mistakes.) __________________ Boo--the only dude bad enough to rescue the president |
