Zelda Mafia: Round IV -- Night One

ZELDA MAFIA IV
(Rules rewritten by me but based upon Cravdraa's, so kudos to him.)


HOW TO PLAY

In the game of “Zelda Mafia,” all players are divided into two factions: the Town and the Mafia. (There might be, of course, some Independents, but I won’t vouch for their existence just yet.) There’s also a special class of Townspeople called Heroes; these certainly do exist, though the number is unknown. The goal of the game is quite simple; to win, all you have to do is fulfil your win condition. The standard win conditions are as follows:
  • Members of the Town win when all threats to the Town have been eliminated.
  • Members of the Mafia win when there are no Heroes remaining and when the Mafia compromises at least half of the remaining players.
(As an aside, players who have either of these win conditions have them written in this exact verbiage. There is no way to identify members of the Town by quoting the proper wording... not that you’re supposed to be doing that anyway! )

The game is divided up into several turns called days, each of which is split into two phases: Daytime and Night-time.

In Daytime, players may freely post in the topic in order to find members of the Town that are actually Mafiosi in disguise. Each player gets one vote, and whenever one player receives a simple majority of the votes, that player is lynched by the Town and is out of the game. That player’s role shall be revealed at that time. Daytime lasts until a player is lynched, there is a majority vote to not hold a lynching, or until a set amount of time has passed (the sun sets).

Once any of these conditions has occurred, the game will be in Sunset as I write up the conclusion of the Daytime proceedings. During this time, you should refrain from posting anything substantial in the topic. Once the conclusion has been written and the lynchee’s role revealed (if there is one), Daytime will turn into Night-time.

In Night-time, players may not post in the thread (save for one trivial post to wish the other players goodnight). During this time, the Mafia may choose a player to murder during the night and will notify me of that choice via PM. That player is killed and is out of the game. Some players may also have night-time abilities; those players will notify me of their night choices via PM as well.

After a set amount of time for players to send me their actions, Sunrise will come. During this time, I will be sending you the results of your night actions via PM. Finally, I shall write an opening post, detailing the deaths (if any) that occurred, as well as any actions that would be publically known. Once this post has been written, Night-time turns to Daytime, and regular posting may commence.


RULES
  1. To vote, you must make your choice on a line by itself, bolding your text. It should look like this: Vote: The Missing Link
  2. You may not edit your posts. No exceptions. If you need to make a correction, you must do so by posting again with your clarification.
  3. You may not post anything game-related during Sunset, Night-time, or Sunrise.
  4. You must post at least three times during a given Daytime phase unless conditions forbid you from posting. If you will be unable to do so for non-game related reasons, please let me and/or the forum thread know in advance. (Some exceptions may be made should days end early.)
  5. You may not talk to other players about this game outside of this thread unless your role permits you to do so.
  6. You may not talk to other players about this game outside of this thread unless your role permits you to do so... EVEN IF YOU AND/OR THE OTHER PLAYER ARE DEAD.
  7. Questions concerning your role or the game should be sent to me and me alone. Speculations and theories that involve elements that you cannot prove the existence or nonexistence of may or may not be answered.
  8. You may not quote my PMs to you. You may paraphrase, but you may not quote.
  9. People can watch your actions on the forum. Therefore, in lieu of PMing me your night choices and/or questions, you may do so by E-mail (tml at mudora dot com) or IM (AIM: TheMisssingLink; others, please ask). However, please PM me your E-mail and/or IM names ahead of time so that I can verify that they come from you. (If I already know them, don't worry about it.)
  10. The first Daytime phase will last five days of real time; Night-time phases will last two days of real time. Daytime and Night-time lengths may be adjusted if needed.

GENERAL ADVICE
  • Players with beneficial abilities might consider keeping such abilities secret at first. Revealing special powers will usually draw significant Mafia attention.
  • Roleplay is fine and dandy; however, it is not a good idea to roleplay as your stated role; doing so will allow the Mafia to speculate the nature of your powers, allowing them a better decision of when it would be best to have you murdered.
  • You may accuse someone of being Mafia without voting for them by Fingering (of suspicion) them. You may mark such in your posts by using “FoS: The Missing Link”. You may also remove a finger on someone by using “Remove FoS: The Missing Link” (the syntax need not be exact). Doing so will not affect the vote, but I will collect these towards the end of day for your reference.
  • After you vote for someone, you are still allowed to change your mind and vote for someone else. If you do so, I request that you “Un-vote: The Missing Link” before voting for the new player.
  • You may also confirm or reaffirm your vote in order to emphasise that you still intend to vote the same way. You may do so using “Confirm Vote: The Missing Link” (the syntax need not be exact). Doing so will not affect the vote in any way and is there only for your benefit.
  • As a last ditch effort to establish credibility, you may perform a role claim. This is typically done using “Role Claim: The Missing Link, Omnipotent Moderator, Townie” (the syntax need not be exact). Doing so will not directly affect the vote and is there only for your benefit. Please note that role claims need not be truthful.
  • Many of your roles refer to durations of status effects or abilities in terms of hours. For the purposes of this game, Daytime and Night-time are 12 hours each. Therefore, 24 hours are considered to be one Daytime and one Night-time phase (or one Night-time and one Daytime phase). Similarly, 48 hours is two Daytime and two Night-time phases (or two Night-time and two Daytime phases).

MISCELLANY SPECIFIC TO ZELDA MAFIA IV

This game is based upon Twilight Princess. Every role will either start with at least item or ability.

Items are a special feature of this game. Items can be single-use or multiple-use and produce results as varied as characters’ abilities. Items are different from abilities in that they can be passed from player to player during Night-time. Items can be used the same night as your abilities unless otherwise stated by your role or item description.

Also unique to this game is rupees, the standard currency of the realm. These may be hoarded or given away to others. But what will you use them for? You’ll probably figure that out soon enough. For now, it’s a secret to everyone.

During the game, some players may also have the ability to cause status effects on other players. Doing so will hamper that player by affecting their Night-time actions or their ability to function during Daytime. A list of possible status effects are as follows:
  • Poison -- Being Poisoned isn’t life threatening, but it will weaken you. While Poisoned, you may only post a maximum of five times per day before drowsing off and taking a nap. It takes 24 hours to be fully cured from Poisoning.
  • Curse -- Being Cursed means that an evil spirit is preventing you from acting during the night. Your Night-time actions are limited to the sending and receiving of items. Curses are always caused by items, so ridding yourself of the Cursed item will alleviate the curse.
  • Injury -- Being Injured means that you’ve been gravely wounded, but not enough to outright cause death. Being Injured means three things:
    • If you receive a second Injury while Injured, you will die.
    • You may still perform actions and use items during Night-time, but you do so at a risk. While Injured, there is a 25% chance that you will die from overexertion and 25% chance that you will pass out before accomplishing your wishes. This is per ability or item you use. (Sending and receiving items does not incur this penalty.)
    • Injuries heal within 24 hours.
  • Disappearance -- Being killed isn’t the only way to be silenced in this game; falling into a deep ravine or getting stranded in the desert won’t kill you, but it will make you miss the Town meeting! Should you Disappear, you will be still be alive, but you will be out of the game for 24 hours. This means the following:
    • During the Daytime, you cannot post nor vote. (You will also not be counted towards the population of the Town during that time.)
    • During the Night-time, you cannot use items, use abilities, or send or receive items.
    • During the Night-time, you cannot be the target of any items or abilities.
  • ????? -- Might there be others? Maybe... maybe not!
Keep track of the time in Hyrule using the Hyrulean Time Server; it's free for you, and it's easy to use!


AND NOW IT’S TIME TO PLAY...

With that, I believe that most everything is discussed. We begin on Night Zero. Nothing of significance will happen tonight. During this time, Mafiosi should get to know one another, players should get accustomed to their roles, and so forth. Again, if you have questions, please, let me know.

That said, please confirm that you have received your role. Once everyone has done so, I will post the beginning of Day One, and the game will begin.
