Theories

This thread is not restricted to just timeline theories or these theories or those theories. Have an idea of where Nintendo got an idea for a game? Have a backstory of a certain place or person you'd like to share? Want to just share Zelda-based theories?

Come here to post your theories, post theories you've found elsewhere, or talk about theories others have posted. Most of my theories I don't really believe, I just thought it was interesting what similarities I found.

Din:

-Possibly derived from Odin, the God of War, since Din represents power and her triforce piece is generally associated with Ganondorf, the founder of many a war.

-Din represents fire and power. The astrologic sign of Leo represents fire and the sun. After researching a ton of zodiac signs for no real reason I've found a lot of ways Leo can represent Din and the powers she stands for.

Nayru:

-I have no idea where her name comes from. There is an old goddess from old Japanese religion called "Naru-Kami", the goddess of thunder and also protection. Well, I can see the protection part, given Nayru's Love protects you... but I'm kinda eh on this one. :]

-The zodiac sign pisces is a water elemental sign, and is associated with love, kindness, and wisdom... similar to the goddess Nayru.

Farore:

-Her japanese name is "furoru", and the "fu" part most likely comes from the word for wind.

-In the original Five Chinese Elements, the element 'wood' replaces the element of air. This may explain why Farore represents both wind AND forest.

-The zodiac sign Gemini generally is associated with intelligence, outgoingness, and bravery, similar to Farore.

I have more but for now I'll sit back on what others have to say. It doesn't matter if your theories are silly, far-fetched, or probably not true... because mine are so, too! Just share with us your theories.

I believe 'Nayru' is an intentional homophone for 'Nehru', as it's well-known that the goddess has a fondness for vaguely science-fictiony collarless jackets. 'Din' seems a clear reference to Kipling (in the Japanese version of OoT, she is referred to as the 'regimental bhisti' of the goddesses). 'Farore' is a mutilation of 'Valerie', as the character is based on that played by Valerie Bertinelli on 'One Day At a Time'.

the Bomb Mask in Majora's Mask was made because Nintendo likes watching players mutilate themselves.

I don't believe any of mine either, because I didn't research anything at all--I just made crap up out of my head.

I believe that the Mask Salesman is a thief himself.

Or a magician of sorts.

I mean, where'd he get those masks? Did he use the Song of Healing or something? WHEN did he get Majora's Mask? If he knew of it's evil, WHY DIDN'T HE DESTROY IT? Why does he want it so back if it's evil? Is it like the One Ring?

yay this is indeed fun

Speaking of Majora, the Twili may be that "eval tribe". Or maybe it's that whole, "giant beast" thing the magna had.

And Zant. Is he really dead? I mean, he appears after Ganondorf's defeat...does he die once more? Or did he himself trick Ganondorf in the end? His Triforce does disappear...could Zant have stolen it?

Oh, and Link. Why is he practicing with a crossbow!?

And is Shiek female or male?

^^ Dammit Boo, stop making fun of gullible people. :[

I believe that the reason the Curiosity Shop guy kicks you out of the Laundry Pool place when he starts his shop is that Termina has a rather huge business of selling illegal drugs. They make it in there. Why else is it so creepy, dark, and locked???

It explains a lot:

- Captain Keeta... he's so humongous because he took growth stimulants when he was alive.
- Kafei actually shrank because an experiment in the lab went wrong. The Skull Kid was just a convenient bloke to put the blame on.
- Happy Mask Man is high.
- Anju puts drugs in her cooking because her boyfriend is an addict. Hence, her father died and her cooking is poisonous.

...See? Explains a looot. ;]

The Breman Mask was made because Nintendo likes seeing Link dance around in a chicken mask like a Crazy Man

^^ OK, upon rereading your post, I am insane. Collarless jackets?? xDD

Dammit, I wish I could find that paper I wrote on Anju's father's death. I had proof to back up my theory and everything.

All I know is that I used The Legend of Zelda (among others) to show how modern "RPGs" are really a form of fantasy fiction in an alternate form. Beyond this, I know not the inner workings of the Miyamoto mind.

I gave you my theory that Impa can't be the last surviving Sheikah if she has a direct descendant in LttP.

One of my questions is about the Keaton Mask. In Termina, Keaton is a real species, but in Hyrule, he's apparently a very popular character. Except besides the mask, there are no other things in Hyrule that show Keaton's existence. Zelda doesn't even know who he is.

Speaking of Keaton, I'm guessing that kid in the Kakariko Graveyard is the son who the Death Mountain gate guard is buying the Keaton mask for.

My next question is about the Wind Fish. How did he come into being? And how did he manage to create Koholit Island and suck Link into it? -CSM

I only played the Oracles games, and OoT, and there's one thing that always confused me.

How is it that the Oracles themselves have the same names and schemes as the Goddesses? I always believed they were some kind of descendant or reincarnation of the goddesses themselves... except their abilities are completely different...

And Farore was the only one that managed to stay safe. xD

^Ironically, by hiding inside a tree.

CL's theory makes sense. Eventually, the large amount of drugs made mutated people. These people had bugass eyes, and had a lot of emotion.

Also, the Gods flooded Hyrule in an attempt to get rid of their drug supply. It was too late by then.

^I thought they flooded the world to try and purge Hyrule of the great evil sweeping across it. No, not Ganon, the other great evil. You know, pop-punk.

And if we continue the drug theory, we can solve the obsession of ocarinas circa the OoT time... they're filled with inhalants. :]

How far have you gotten in LttP, CL? Because Ocarinas were in the Zelda series for a long time. -CSM

Random thought that occurred... what if Link's Awakening is actually the link of Wind Waker? That would make sense why he is wandering on islands... And perhaps the Wind Fish is the soul of Lord Jabu Jabu or something XD Hey, once he got flooded free of that itty bitty lake, I would certainly have gotten my funk on if I was a giant magic fish. Or, you know, maybe it was that giant thing on the destroyed third island in WW. Or maybe THAT was Jabu Jabu!

Mind, I havn't played Phantom Hourglass yet...

...(I like Jabu Jabu)
