Today, at 80 hours and 24 minutes, I finally beat Tales of Symphonia. I gotta admit that the ending was a bit of a letdown, but the Grade Shop looks pretty cool (although I'm sure I won't be playing again for a long time!).

Saw the ending all the way up until "Fin". Beleive me, I've beaten enough RPGs to know to never turn off the ending until I'm truly sure it's over...I've been known to wait 10 minutes or more when it finally ends "just to make sure".

***BEGIN SPOILERS***

I wasn't disappointed that Lloyd didn't shout out the name of the tree (like you said it's pretty obvious, but that still leaves it up to the imagination), just at the general brevity and the fact that all of the characters' new paths were predictable. There also wasn't one moment that really tugged at my heartstrings like the ending of FFVI, FFIX, or (most of them anyway) Chrono Trigger. I actually think doing all of those sidequests (instead of going straight to the ending) might've hurt as well, since I wasn't quite as hyped up for it (and Mithos was a pushover) when I finally beat it.

I'm not saying it was bad by any means, just didn't live up to the rest of the experience.

Basicly my whole post is a spoiler so

SPOILER !!!!!!!GO AWAY IF YOU FEAR RUINING YOUR GAME!!!!!!

Ok well I can only guess the tree's name is "symphonia" cause the name never comes up in the game. If not why is the game called "tales of symphonia" and then never mention the word symphnia?

Also i feel really bad now... I got Kratos instead of zelos.... and.... When i found out that in doing so it REALLY made him betray me that was sad. then honestly i never thought i was ganna kill him when i battled him. i though injured or something but kill? no i never saw that one coming. (PS thanks silv for the helpful hint on getting kratos. The people on gamefaqs are total idiots.)

Also! i have hear of tales of phantasia before. never seen it. What system is it out for and can someone give me some non-spoiler plot basics? And does it connect to Tales of Symphonia? (the plot i mean. do the two games relate in anyway?)

Believe it or not, "Symphonia" was actually the very first thing I thought of too. That's why I said that Lloyd not saying it left it open to the imagination.

<SPOILER>

I think that the ending is a little nicer if you don't pick Kratos. Even though you do get to learn a bit more about the plot, they take away a few of those really touching scenes, like the night before Lloyd goes to face Kratos in battle. Being able to choose who is there with you (indirectly) is really nice. *cough* SHEENA *cough*

SPOILER!

I disagree... as the various Kratos and Lloyd conversation moments (FATHER SON BONDING!!!!) more than make up for the night in Hiemdall. X3 Everything is so much more explained about the game, too, including a lot of things you wouldn't know about Lloyd, Kratos, Noishe, Mithos... ANNA... really, the plot becomes more Lloyd and Kratos centric, and I love it. Scenes only available with Kratos include... Dialogue in Luin concerning Anna, dialogue in Heimdall conserning Kratos helping to get the Mana Leaf Herb, dialogue at night in Triet again, and really, Kratos' Pendant is the most significant thing Lloyd gets from the night in Flanoir. Do you want a picture of your mom and dad --who you don't remember clearly, but have influenced your entire life-- and you as a kid? Or do you want a dinky snow hare, or nothing at all? (Okay, the Chosen's Orb is kinda cool, leading to my point that the only point I'd not get Kratos is to get Zelos as the feature character.) Oh, oh, and the "Childhood Memories" conversation, where you learn that Lloyd faintly remembered sitting on his dad's shoulders and watching the stars together with him... and how, because of that, astronomy was one of the only things he studied seriously... And Kratos gets his Dad title... *eyes tear up*

It's still a toss up between going for the Sheena "ending" or Kratos next for me.

Might I suggest, then, that you save before Flanoir, play out Sheena's route (and save on a different file) and then load the past save game to get Kratos? The reason in that order, is because you *can't* miss the scenes with the main focal character when it's anyone else but Kratos... you can speed through the Tower and etc all the way to the ending fairly quickly, and you don't really need to pick up anything along the way. Then Kratos, because you need to get the extra scenes, which takes a little bit more sidequest work. ^_^

Hmmm....I have a question...

*possible spoiler*

So, does Noishe ever evolve into the last Protozoan stage of life? *cough*thehumanthathuntsdownevil*cough*

Because that would be super cool.

Anyways, I made it to the Tethe'alla Tower of Salvation. Something tells me it isn't the end, though, based on the fact that I've barely even started the second disc.

[spoilers]

Yeah, first thing I thought of was "Symphonia". Why did they even call the game Tales of Symphonia when there is no mention of symphonia in the slightest bit?

Anyway, I later found out it was Yggdrassil. That doesn't make sense to me either, why would Lloyd name it after the evil dude of the game? :/

Obi-Two, the second disc is much shorter than the first. Sidequests make the second one a bit longer than it is plotwise, though.

(SPOILERS)

Why name it Yggdrasill? Because, even though Mithos' means were wrong, he had good ends in mind (note: a world without discrimination). And given the fact he was a hero once, trying to end the Great War (well, and ending it). And to me, given his past (being dispised by everyone, then to have the only one protecting him killed off and catching you in a dilemna of saving her or the world... X_X then to have your remaining friends leave you..repeatedly...) you have to feel some sympathy for him. It's a hope for a world where Mithos' ideals can come true, without the way he strived to achieve them.

...Okay, if you're still unsatisfied with that, then it's also because Martel's last name is Yggdrasill and she's a great gal. Zat okay? XD
