Figure it's time to get started getting started. You cats know the drill, or you should ought to, anyway. We need six generals (that's six, mind you--I don't care to officiate and play simultaneously again). As of right now, all positions are open. For the sake of fairness, the previous generals have automatic dibs--essentially, the role they played last time is still theirs if they want it. If you're new to the game and still want to play (and you are welcome to!), I urge you read over the also-stickied Sign-up and War Itself topics from the first war, just to give you an idea of what's going on. (Hell, some of you veterans might want to do that, too--it's been a while.) So: this leaves us with six General slots and an unlimited number of positions for Freelancers. Start signing up, O my brothers--I'll edit this initial post to reflect the current roster as we go. Hup! CURRENT POSITIONS: Blake: Hylian General i_am_nobody: Goron General Horsehead XVI: Kokiri General Microphone_Kirby: Undead General The Missing Link: Zora General StarryPeach: Gerudo General That Guy: Undead Freelancer Tazy Ten: Zora Freelancer Cravdraa: Freelancer X-3: Hylian Freelancer Wyborn: Undead Freelancer Seabass: Freelancer CL: Goron Freelancer Mr. L: Undecided (EDIT: Sign-ups current as of 03-03-08.) | Newbie Join Date: Jan 2008 Gender: Posts: 3 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts | Hmm...I really cannot commit any time to this round, but I do have a suggestion that I thought would really improve the game, in my opinion. That is, word limits and standard formatting. My standard formatting I mean that all generals have the exact same template for their resources, income, army positions, etc. My word limits I mean that strategies and information necessary to the WARMOD's control should be strictly limited on a per month, not per post basis. This was the WARMOD's job is reasonable instead of excruciating. Perhaps a similar system could be worked out with the IW. Yes, this means less flexibility, but hopefully more fun. Also, I don't know the current state, but we used to play 1 day = 1 month. Perhaps it would be more fun and less of a commitment to play 2 days = 1 month. Generals, players, WARMOD, and IW would all have more time to flex their schedules around. Perhaps a cutoff could be made at 36 hours, so the remaining 12 hours are only for the WARMOD and IW. Anyway, this probably isn't the right place to post these, but there they are. |

I spent a lot of time trying to avoid strict regimentation and rules-lawyering, because I think those get in the way of the 'OG-meets-Warcraft' vibe of the original, and hamper creativity to boot. That's my read, anyway. If anyone has an opinion on this issue, feel free to express it. I only ask that you do so in the original War Itself topic, where a round-table discussion on the first war's pros and cons is smoldering. |

But if we're full up, and someone wants to take that position, I will cede it to them and instead take a Freelancer spot. |

However, if the Kokiri general is still open by the end and we need it to start, I can still do that too. |

I know there's some more people reading this topic what would like to take a general position. Don't make me get TML, I swear to God I'll do it! And WolfosSmak, so help you all! |

Have you grown tired of all the sophisticated language for which I have oft remembered you and instead debased yourself in the trenches of Internet lingo's quagmire? What the hell, indeed. So this might sound silly, but I frankly don't remember how to play this game. It's been so long, and over the years it has evolved a surprising degree to where it's virtually unrecognisable. However, should your desperation have reached a sufficient threshold to where your sanity is just nigh of snapping, in the now abominable words of the ghastly moderator: "Sign me up plz kthx." In the games of yore, I used to play the Kokiri. However, seeing as how a half-claim has been made to them, and I do not wish to stand in the way, I shall tentatively place my mark upon the Zora clan. |

Generals: Gerudo: Wyborn Zora: TML Kokiri: Marilink (OTF) Other OTF Generals: Blake: Not Goron (different race) and not undead, and all that's left now is Hylian... please confirm i_a_n: whatever's "last"... OK, I've waited LONG ENOUGH!!!! Un-sign me as a Freelancer and Sign me up as the Undead General!!! NOW! Now the Generalship should look like this, assuming the conditions of the OTF Generals: Hylian: Blake (please confirm) Goron: i_a_n Gerudo: Wyborn Zora: TML Kokiri: Marilink (please confirm) Undead: Shadow_Kirby ... Right? (BTW TML: You Avatar is pretty cute! ^_^) |

The Zoras call your name! (Or maybe TML's) Edit: AH HA! Perhaps if I learned to read I would understand that TML has indeed chosen Zora! I'm the smart guy today! |

So I'm wondering if I can trade off my initial larger start of soldiers for a smaller amount as a monthly racial bonus. |

| SuperMod of War Join Date: Nov 2000 Location: Wisconsinland Gender: Posts: 9,945 Thanks: 157 Thanked 1,481 Times in 763 Posts | Who croaked and made you Warmod, SK? Why, I oughtta...*waves arms menacingly: loses balance and falls over. Big comedy trombone 'wah wah wah wah'* The Hylian bonus is twofold, Blake--in addition to the bigger starting army, you also get a free soldier for every twenty you train. (And I decided on this well before I had to take over the Hylian generalship last round, so let's not have any 'omfg boo is teh cheaterface' nonsense, O my brothers.) Sound all right to you? TML doesn't like it when I say in one word what ten words will merely hint at. That's worth remembering--next time I want him to go away forever, all I have to do is switch from talking nonsense to talking turkey, and he'll flee horror-stricken into the night, shrieking as if the very kites of hell had their talons in him. (Oh, and check your PMs, TML--last round's rules in transit. Some things will be a little different this coming round, but it's still better than a kick up the backside. Oh, and there's some spots where I refer to you as running the Hylians in the first part--I originally typed that up for someone who was thinking of taking over as Hylian General for me. It fell through. Anyway, disregard those bits. There's a good lad.) (Oh, and if anyone else wants a copy of these PMs, just ask here and I'll think about sending 'em along to you as well.) Resources are going to work a little differently this round. Every territory you conquer nets you a one-time bonus in resources, to be determined by me later on. Hopefully this will redress the 'resources are basically the same thing as money' complaint that arose last war. Additionally, because I'm totally impartial this time, I'm bringing the awesome 'secret bonuses' plan I had last time around, where taking certain territories gets you special benefits, whether in terms of rupees, resources, or cover. We're going to start out the same basic way we started out last round--infantry-only to start with, no attribute bonuses. We'll probably bring in the attribute training and new units around the third or fourth 'month'. Once we've finalised our crew of generals, I'll set a starting date. In the interim, I'll see about throwing together the same kind of information packets I sent out before last round. By the way, is the current map okay? I ask because it seems to be a little bit more convenient for some races than for others. (And bear in mind that I'm still crap at drawing--any requests for a pretty drawn map will be laughed at and dismissed out of hand. Last edited by Booyakasha; 01-22-2008 at 02:11 PM. |
