Wind Waker Topic (Spoilers)

I'm not good with intros, so instead of what Wy did for the MM topic, I'll just list what I liked and didn't like.

Liked:
Sailing
Having 49 islands to go to
Having 4 mini games and a training game, all of which were on separate islands
The many secret caves
The rewards system that Beetle offers
The graphics, especially for the special arrows and fire
The dungeons
The many side quests
The big-octo fights
The ghost ship appearances
Cyclos
The storms that appeared

Did not like:
The predictable story
Beetle and the Treasure Hunters being the only friendly boats
KotR's inability to stop talking
ReDeads (But you already knew that )
The second set of rich people (eyesore)

For me it ranks second in the series(TP wins, but that's for another topic) and 3rd overall.

The Triforce hunt could have used a lot of work, too. I mean, a good majority of it was going to an island, doing something very small, finding a map, paying Tingle out the nose, sailing to the island, and then digging. There were like one or two of the maps that were actually somewhat complicated to get (you needed to solve a puzzle or whatnot), but it'd have been nice if there was some sort of mini-dungeon of like five or six rooms to get each one.

As for something I liked, I actually didn't mind the sailing all that much. I think that the world was just AWESOME being that big. Once you got the Ballad of Whatever the Hell that allowed you to teleport across the map, it became even less of a worry. Hehe... I actually remember all of the rumours of Ocarina of Time, saying that the world would be so BIG that it would take 24 real hours to cross the map or something like that; this was about the closest you'll ever get to that, and I thought it was fun because there was a lot out there to do if you just made sure to steer towards it.

Sailing was only bad when you had to follow a certain path, like when you are rasing the Tower of the Gods. When you were able to choose were you went it was a lot better. (After you didn't have a set course, the only problem I had was that the Big Octos didn't respawn)

The triforce hunt had a lot of problems. Tingle's prices were much higher then they should have been, and the Ghost Ship and Cabanna were the only map locations that couldn't be beaten as soon as you found them.

I'm very sad.

I used to have this game, and I gave it a rest for awhile when I kept getting lost when I was trying to save Aryll from the big monster bird king guy.

But the copy disappeared...

I need a new one. :/

One of the pieces I loved most about this game was the fact that you could tag-team dungeons. I *seriously* enjoyed having Medli and Makar in the Earth and Wind Temples IMMENSELY. Part of it was because it brought back the Link/Kafei teamwork that was involved when getting Kafei's mask back, but more so was that you gained so many unique abilities when playing as them. (Medli more so than Makar, but Koroks aren't exactly that versatile, really.) Having effectively double mirror shields to bounce light around in the huge mirror puzzle at the basement of the Earth Temple was extreme.

Also, the two-on-one fight with Zelda at the very end was aces as well. That's something I'd been wanting to see since Ocarina of Time, yo.

WW was my favourite 3D Zelda and, for my money, the third-best game in the canon (after LoZ and LttP). I'm not going to claim it was some new study in difficulty, of course, but the game's general awesomeness more than made up for the shortness of the main quest.

Likes--
Huge overworld full of crap to explore
Pitched battles against multiple powerful assailants
Awesome new equipment (grappling hook--excellent)
Ship combat
Mucking about with hyoi pears and seagulls
Trawling for treasure
That crazy bastard Salvatore
Throwing dropped enemy weapons at other enemies
The ghost ship
Enemy character design
Teamwork with Medli and Makar
Intentionally throwing Medli into walls. (Don't try and claim you didn't do it, mac.)
Flattening Bokoblins with the hammer
Stormy seas
The Rito in general

Dislikes--
Tingle & co.
Beedle
Sliding on ice and hearing Link freak right on out
Musical power (waving a conductor's baton is about as fey as it gets)

Medli's flying controls were a lot easier to use, but I still liked the Wind Temple better only because Jalhalla was so easy.

Can't comment on the final boss because I've never actually gotten to beating the Earth Temple portion of Gannon's Tower.

I didn't throw the dropped weapons at enemys unless I'd just taken it from a Darknut or Moblin, (Why don't those guys just drop the swords and box you the whole time?) otherwise I just used the spin attack.

One thing that I really liked is the replayable boss fights. I've started MC and aLttP over several times just to fight the bosses again, but in WW you can fight them again(Except Gohdan) in Gannon's Tower. (FS and FSA also had this, but you had to do everything over again)

Seriously, has nobody mentioned the music? Maybe the score wasn't as memorable to others as it was to me, but it's definitely the part of this game that's stuck with me the most. I only played through this game one time back when it came out, and I still remember a lot of the songs quite well. I find myself whistling the title screen melody fairly often for no reason (sometimes I break into the credits remix because it's great).

^ Hell. Yes. I can't get enough of the Dragon Roost tune. It's one of the few songs that has actually beat out the Gerudo Valley song for me.

Also the daytime sailing music was fairly awesome as well. In general, it really was a great soundtrack in general.

^Nicely done. I'd imagine the TML is deeply embarrassed (OMG I SAID 'THE TML'! IRONY-BOMB).

The TML will eat your first-born children should you ever decide to torture the world with a smaller facsimile of yourselves.

WW was a damn good game. I'm gonna go replay it from where my newest file is: probably around the tower or so.
---
Day 01
Name: Omega(Yeah, I don't know why I named Link this, but whatever)
I woke up on my talking boat, realized I had the MS, and the I/F arrows. I bought a Heart Piece from Beedle, making another heart. So, I went to those two Ice and Fire islands. The Ice one annoyed the crap out of me, with Link's freaking out on ice, and the moving platforms. The fire pissed me off by somehow getting me lost. Yeah, I have no idea either. But now, I had the Power Bracelets, and the Iron Boots!

I spoke with teh Earth Sage, who was all, "Find mah relative". So I spoke with Medli(Obviously the relative), who was all, "Conduct me". So I did...and then she died in my arms! I was all, "Medliiiiiiiiiiiiiii!" Then she woke up and was all, "Shut the hell up. Oh, and the I'm the Earth Sage." Then I was all, "Actually, that postman is, but he's sick, so you can be the sage."

Then we departed, leaving Komali behind. Sorry wimpy prince, but Medli is MAH LADY.

...
Yeah, I scare myself. A lot.

I love me some Wind Waker, but the game goes down pretty far on my Zelda List just because of the potential it didn't live up to. I enjoy the game every time I play it, but every time I get to the Triforce hunt, I go "Wow. There could have been 8 more levels in this game, and there aren't."

I have a lot of gripes about WW, and unlike some people, none of them involve graphics. At all. And about half of them involve Puppet Ganon.

This isn't to say I didn't enjoy the game, though. Great music, and the dungeons they did have were pretty enjoyable and awesome. Good boss fights (Minus puppet Ganon), and a totally sweet final boss fight (Puppet Ganon doesn't count as a Final boss phase, for it is too horrible to be considered).

I liked the morning and boss fight music. Not that I didn't like the rest of it, those are just the only ones that I still remember.

The Tingle Tuner was also an interesting feature, but only if you have cooperative freinds. Otherwise they just waste 1000 rupees bombing you.

I actually played the first part of the game -- up through Dragon Roost -- with the Tingle Tuner. It was actually sort of interesting since the comments Tingle would make would actually add a pinch of depth to the storyline.

Although it was freaky when he started talking about how attracted he was to Medli. Eww.

Bah! I guess I'll throw in my two cents for what it's worth.

Like:
The large explorable world
The new questions it throws into any timeline theory
The continuation of the longer dungeons that started in Majora's Mask
Getting the big pig on Outset angry at you
The new and improved battle system
The storms
Intentionally throwing Medli into walls (thanks Boo)
Stopping for treasure every few minutes when the KoRL is telling you to hurry
Stealing the enemies weapons
Some awesome music (Dragon Roost, Great Sea, Earth Temple, Earth Sage theme, Boss music, Intro, just to name a few)
One of the best Ganondorf fights period.

Dislike:
The over-extended and expensive Triforce quest
Tingle himself
The Tingle Tuner gimmick
Slaving for hours to get all the figurines in the gallery
Only 5 or 6 REAL dungeons.
