What do you call the big guy?

What name do you use to refer to the main antagionist of the series?
Most people I know refer to him as Ganondorf in his humanoid form, but Ganon in his evil warthog form. I call him Ganon in any form, just because it sounds cooler, in my opinion.

Ganondorf is the human incarnation.

^ That.

Ganondorf Dragmire is the full name of the Prince of Thieves. At some point in time, he became little more than a legend, as he was locked away in the Golden Land. People have a way of changing words and the names of things, and it became shortened to Ganon. An easier way of remembering it is just that whenever you see him in Pig/Boar/Monster form, he is known as Ganon. I think Windwaker is the only exception to this, where the game makers preferred to call him Ganon even as he is still in human form.

I call him Ganondork, because he's a dork.

I call him whatever you're supposed to call him. When referring to OoT, I call him Ganondorf as a human and Ganon as a boar thing. In WW, I call him Ganon. In MM and PH, I call him nonexistant.

As an aside, I've always found Ganondorf more threatening than Ganon. This is probably because menacing warthog beasts just aren't all that...menacing in real life. Plus, the 3D incarnations of Ganondorf have been pretty BA.

Question: How do we know his last name is Dragmire?

You know, I have the distinct impression that if a half-man half-boar was standing at your doorsteps you'd **** your pants so powerfully they'd fall down to your ankles.

Also, Mandrag Ganon was always my fav.

NOA gave his full name as Ganondorf Dragmire in the US manual for LttP. I believe that's the only place it occurs. Whether it's canonical or not is debatable, I guess.

You know, I'm going to ask here and now - why do people care about canononical? It's not like the Zelda series has ever been one through which sequential, historical plot has ever mattered outside the gimmick factor

I didn't know there was a difference until I discussed it with some friends the day after I made this thread. Perhaps I should rename it: 'Which name sounds better?'

^^Holy cow, I just had an awesome idea--everything is canon. 'Hyrulian War' is now an official part of the timeline. Yes.

Seriously, though, canon's mostly important to the big fans. You know, your weirdo purists and fanfic writers and such. I'm not one of them. I don't even like Zelda, to be honest. I mean, it's all right, but it's no 'Sneak King'...(JOKE).

It's entirely arguable that the older NoA has done a much better job elaborating on all of Nintendo's series for it to appeal to western audiences, rather than the current one which basically just forwards everything from Japan. Mario, for instance, was easily much more colorful and interesting in the early 90's. Now he's hollower than the olsen twins.

I haven't actually read a game manual in years, so I'm ill-equipped to comment.

I still say that the plotline to LttP has thus far remained the most interesting, at least in backstory. Also, mention of Ganon touching the triforce with blood-drenched hands after slaughtering the entire Gerudo tribe? Yeah. Badass. Stupid Japanese.

Entirely awesome backstory, indeed.

It was certainly more epic sounding than OoT turned out to be.
