This is called "overthinking it".

So, I've been playing through OoT recently, and the other day I was presented with a most interesting realization. Here's what I posted on the matter in a different forum earlier:

Quote:
In Ocarina of Time, we're presented with the intricate way in which the land of Hyrule is supplied with freshwater. The water is produced within the Zora's Domain, and then flows down all of Hyrule's waterfalls and tributaries, even as far down as Lake Hylia. Now, in the Zora Kingdom, all of the land's water is produced in the sacred lake of the Zora's Fountain. From there it passes into the Zora's Domain by the royal throne, which is the permanent residence of King Zora.

In other words, all the water in Hyrule has passed under King Zora's ass and crotch.

Drink deep.

But only after flowing out of a spring where a giant fish-god sleeps, eats, and uses the bathroom.

I'm sure the Zora King is very clean, though.

He probably has fish-servants wipe his ass.

I still wouldn't drink Hyrule's water, though.

If fish-butt is all you had to worry about in your water during the Medieval Ages, I'd think you'd be set.

Then again, you never actually see anyone drink the water, though.

If there's only one major source of fresh water, then Ganondorf is a retard. Just poison it, send the most powerful of minions to guard it and any other possible water sources, while bottling his own and becoming rich and powerful.

What better way to control a country than to completely dominate their source of life? One iron fist in Hyrule's balls, another on his sword.

In exchange for water, the people would have to embrace Ganondorf as King and offer up Link and Zelda.

Hey, there's a game idea! LoZ + The Fugitive = Badass game.

There's three outcomes, in a general sense, to that scenario:

1. people can't afford the monopoly that Ganondorf has on the water and they die, the livestock dies, the country becomes an empty wasteland

2. people embrace Ganondorf and live under his dictatorship

3. they rebel and overthrow Ganondorf from sheer need; you can only push people so far before they are compelled to take what they need

Number 2 isn't even the most likely scenario, not least because there is rain and there are/should be wells available to the people. Besides, you can't effectively poison a large river like that, and for it to grow in size after it leaves the Zora's Domain, there have to be smaller rivers feeding into it further downstream. Just because they were too lazy to put them into the game doesn't mean it's a reasonable or accurate depiction of the landscape. XD

And this is ALL under the assumption that Hylians even drink water. They're not human; who's to say that's a realistic expectation in the first place?

I REALLY DEBATE A LOT!

1. This is impossible as he would dole out enough for survival at a minimal price, even give it out to the poor and dying. Think of it as a utility bill.

2. YUP YUP

3. Then why do they need Link at all? Plus only teh Master sword can kill him (I think).

Like I said, wells and such = taken over/destroyed.

A magic poison could work well to combat ur logik.

My idea is assuming there are no other rivers so =P

And they have cups and wells so they DO drink. In WW there's a tavern!

I think it's quite clear that, by sitting in the Zora River, King Zora is tainting the water supply. (*rimshot*)

So? It's not like most animals drink clean, purified water anyway.

But they don't drink poisoned water. Even if they did, the animals would logically produce poisonous milk.

Psh, you're talking about poison water. The rest of us are talking about King Zora's butt water.

Theory:

Those who drank King Zora's Butt-Water became interested in dark magicks, and then eventually became Twili.

It's possible, because in the OoT(Child)-TP timeline, there is no flood, so more people drink the water.
