| Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: The Cold North of the Isles Gender: Posts: 50 Thanks: 1 Thanked 7 Times in 6 Posts | Zelda 3 version differences As of the past few months, I've been picking up Zelda again (It's been a few years -- I was distracted by an RPG that swallowed me whole). Most noteably, Zelda 3. I'll probably wind back into OoT again to get myself into the head of other 3D games I've been missing, but that's beside the point. There's about... 3 versions of Zelda 3 now, aren't there? The original SNES, the Virtual Console, and Capcom's GBA port. With the first two, I don't expect much has really changed -- I'm pretty sure even the original text's the same between them. But the Capcom one, that's a little different. There have been changes which can be irrelevant, or others which are quite interesting. A few to note: - The witch in the Witch's hut, who lets you taste the red potion, has been swapped for a GBC sprite, probably from the Oracle games. I don't even feel good about it; couldn't they have at least spruced her up a bit?... - You've got a third creepy lumberjack now, who sits inside the hut. As of this time, I have no idea what he does, but I've not really visited after the Dark World yet, so I'm probably missing a good... riddle? It's riddles he does, isn't it? - I c'n make Link dance~! Whether they intentionally didn't set the 'pull' to only apply to walls or what I don't know, but I annoy my friends with it regardless. ![]() - The red boomerang... is useful! The blue one doesn't do much, but the red one soars through long grass and bushes, slicing them apart until they find an item, and bring it back to you~! ;D I was so happy about this, it makes wasting time in Hyrule field so much easier. - There have been changes to the text, re-translated most likely from the original, which is actually kinda nice. Means things might make more sense than before for theorists. And I know there are plenty about. ![]() These are the ones I can remember, and I'm quite sure these are the only ones I've come across, except maybe one treasure chest in Kakariko. But I've no idea if I'm missing any others, and I've no idea who knows these, and others' opinions on these changes. Some seem really insignificant, and some make things slightly easier, which is more of a treat than a major change. So what else have people discovered, and what are your thoughts on these changes? |

And yes, the person inside the witch's hut looks like Maple from the Oracle games. |

The only other thing that gets annoying after repeated use, the first being the beams when Link is at full hearts. Pains me to say I wound up playing with the volume turned down. I like the music, but you spend a lot of time using that sword. *twitch* |

The game interface is slightly different: the hearts are placed differently in the GBA version, and they don't have LIFE over them. Maybe I'll get a comparison shot. edit: actually, they're in the same place. The item icon is different between versions, though. |

But when you're firing loud annoying beams every few seconds it's incentive to lose just half a heart (and by the time you get the sword you know the enemies won't do it by halves no more). The voice is just incentive to either play with the sound down or return to the old versions. Shame, that. There should have been an option so you could turn it off. |

I prefer the older one. The resolution is lower on the GBA. There is actually a faerie salesman in the Village of Outcasts in the GBA. There were so many changes that were pointlessly frivolous that it's really a wonder how anyone could not notice them. And the sword sound never bothered me, but the yelling child does. I don't even think Link is supposed to be as young in LttP as he was in OoT, anyway. He certainly doesn't have a problem using the large shield or a bow. |

Completing them earns you Purple Dark Link's spin attack. |

That was something that annoyed me about FS; I like my solo Zelda adventures, couldn't they have let an AI do it? |
