Question How would you feel if the next Zelda Game is in First-Person?

With their inclusion of the Wii-Motion-Plus, it seems like a possibility. I doubt they'd go through with it, but it could happen very easily if they wanted to.

I would laugh at the NERD RAAAEG, then hope for an almost Metroid Prime-ish immersive experience, but with more people and less loneliness.

Would there be a little image of Link's face at the bottom of the screen looking around, and getting bloodier as Link loses more hearts?

It could work. Not sure it'd be the best fit in a main-sequence game, though.

Eh. I never liked first person perspective anyway, I prefer over-the-shoulder or third person when I'm playing a shooter-style game. It would take some getting used to, and honestly, I'm hoping for something that absorbs me just as easily as TP did. If they can produce something like that and make the puzzle-solving and combat work in first person, then I guess it wouldn't be too bad...

Sword fights in the the 3D Zelda's traditional perspective will not work. You can't see directly in front of Link. I wouldn't mind the game normally being in third person (it was kind of necessary for certain parts of the last few games) and only switching to first-person when you engaged an enemy, or if you were able to switch between 1st and 3rd person at will.

That'd be hilarious if you brought up your shield and the entire screen went black, followed by *clang clang clang*.

The room is spinning...spinning...

Performing a spin attack would not bode well for those plagued with motion sickness.

I predict anecdotes of Redeads rustling behind you that you're not aware of until it's too late.

I think it could work if they did it right. Most of the fundamental gamepay would need big changes.

^ That.

I'm pretty open regarding changes in game franchises, so a first-person zelda could actually be cool. Provided, of course, they do it right.

It never really makes any sense when you can see behind yourself, now does it? One of the items could be a helmet with rear-view mirrors mounted on it. It'll be the natural successor to the mirror shield. Hahahahahaha.

This is kind of what I was thinking of. Sword-fighting in 3rd person could work in a kind of awkard fashion, like it did in Die by the Sword, where the sword-arm is controlled by the mouse, but I don't necessarily think that would suit the game.

Personally, I think Nintendo needs to rethink the concept of a 3D Zelda game without falling back on OoT, like they seem to have with their newer iterations of the franchise. I would say the single greatest drawback to Twilight Princess is that it felt too similar to Ocarina, although I liked it in a way for accomplishing with its environments much of what OoT failed to do.

A lot of puzzles will have to be conformed specifically for a first-person-only view...Part of the puzzles in games like the Oracles and Link's Awakening pretty much relied on you seeing the entire screen.

Considering that it can't really use physics puzzles because then everyone who is NOT already crying about how it's different will then be crying that it's just a ripoff of Half Life or Portal. Having to do like small key puzzles will result in people whining about how they're just card-key puzzles in Ye Olde British Isles. Having jumping puzzles that don't even require you to align yourself with jumping will result in people whining. And having to do obstacle courses like in Mirror's Edge will just get people whining that it's a ripoff of Mirror's Edge despite that most of those people have probably never even seen more than the trailers.

No matter what it'd probably be the most whined about Zelda game since Wind Sailor.

Protip: To defeat Ganon, hit him with the Master Sword until he dies.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Anyways, I definitely thing it's doable. The ludic qualities of a game are mostly separate from the theme -- it's a lot like how Metroid made the jump from 2D to 3D.

While I'm not much of a first person fan I think it could work I mean they did it Wind Waker with the archery.
