New Zelda Wii Not 'Committed' to 2010 Yet

New Zelda Wii Not 'Committed' to 2010 Yet

Quote:
For a company that's long been notorious for delaying their games, is it any surprise to see they'd be cagey about committing to anything so early in a project's development? Speaking to Geoff Keighley on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime was very deliberate in not setting a release timeframe for the new Legend of Zelda in development for the Wii.

"We haven't committed to Zelda in 2010," Reggie elusively said. Keighley clarified that Miyamoto has so far said the game is "tracking" for 2010. "That's what he said, and we'll see how that continues to develop," retorted Reggie.

He did, however, reconfirm that Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M are committed to 2010, so that's at least two big titles to look forward to next year, Wii fans. And looking more toward the immediate future, Reggie also made a bold challenge to Infinity Ward: He predicted that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will outsell Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox 360 by the end of the holiday season.

"Absolutely. I say that unequivocally," Reggie proclaimed. He did issue the caveat that they'll only compare sales of Modern Warfare 2 on the 360 and not the 360, PS3, and PC combined for this unofficial challenge, but it's a rather bold claim nevertheless. "Let's take it all the way through the January NPD data -- yes. I'll put that stake in the ground."

We're just going to pretend there's a secret million dollar wager between Nintendo and Activision at stake to make it a little more interesting.
Well, here's hoping we won't have to wait that long.

I wouldn't be surprised if 'New Super Mario Bros' on the Wii outsold MW2 on the 360, for two reasons---a) people are going to buy MW2 on other systems, and b) MW2 actually has other new games it has to compete with on the 360.

If you take that 's to be was rather than is, I would agree with you. Ever since Nintendo started making Reggie stand up there with Cammy talking about how much Nintendo would make people smile, Reggie lost a lot of that badassitude.

I'd rather them take their sweet time and make a good game than rush a crapola one. -CSM

I still haven't gotten to my 2nd play through of Twilight Princess yet, honestly I want them to take their time, if we don't get a new Zelda before 2012 I'd be fine.

Nintendo Hoping To Improve On Twilight Princess With New Zelda

Quote:
Nintendo has yet to formally reveal the next Zelda slated for the Wii, but information about it has been leaking out for some time. In his latest comments, director Eiji Aonuma told IGN that the new title will aim to "improve upon the experience in Twilight Princess."

"With Twilight Princess, we challenged ourselves to create the most vast and realistic world the series had ever seen, but we don't feel that we were able to fully complete this objective," Aonuma said. "With that as a starting point for our improvements to the series in the future, we are of course working on a new game for Wii."

"For any game to be remembered for a long time, just like Ocarina of Time was, the game must give the strong impression that it has set a new starting point for future sequels to build upon. We are working to further improve upon the experiences found in Twilight Princess so that our future games can realize these innovations."

With this information, a clearer picture of the new Zelda is beginning to emerge. The teaser image released earlier this year indicated that it would feature the more realistic Link, and Shigeru Miyamoto has already said that it won't be "radically different" from other Zelda games. The key innovation seems to be the inclusion of MotionPlus support, which will make for more interesting swordfights.

The new Legend of Zelda will likely be formally unveiled at the next E3, with a release date to follow in either late 2010 or 2011.
For all of you who weren't satisfied with TP.

More vast and realistic Zelda? Count me in. That's what I've really been wanting, here.

They're pretty much telling us "Hey, this is TP but we're gonna try harder. Oh, and the game isn't really gonna change much so yeah have fun with our new sensor."

Well, honestly, that doesn't sound insanely bad, really; just sounds like Nintendo's norm these days, what with their laziness and all.

2010: Nintendo gets back to making games I will actually buy.

(Well, NSMB Wii is a nice start.)

Count me in for this, I liked TP much better than being stranded at sea. Forget art styles, finding all those triforce pieces sucked.
