Zelda Producer Plans Surprises for E3 2010

Zelda Producer Plans Surprises for E3 2010

Quote:
Still recovering from Shigeru Miyamoto's announcement that he didn't expect the next Legend of Zelda game to "be radically different"? Don't lose hope just yet; producer Eiji Aonuma spoke with the Official Nintendo Magazine about the new Zelda that's coming to Wii, and he thinks fans will be surprised by what's in store for them.

"It is something we used to talk about with Mr. Miyamoto, and he and I agree that if we are following the same structure again and again, we might not be able to give long-time Zelda fans a fresh surprise," the Twilight Princess producer told ONM, continuing, "So we have been trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game this time. I am really hopeful that people will be surprised with the changes we have implemented for this Wii version."

It's already been confirmed that the next Zelda for Wii will take advantage of the MotionPlus add-on for more realistic sword fights, but what else can we expect from Link's upcoming adventure? According to Aonuma, we'll have to wait until E3 2010 to find out. "I hope that we can show you something at the E3 show next year and it is something we are hopeful will be surprising," he teased.

This has me curious... I would laugh if the game is in first-person. Then I would shout, "I told you so!"

Rewritten, this time without the Marketing BS:

"Hey Nintendo fans! Specifically, Zelda fans! You remember how good we are to you, right? Like how we tell you all sorts of secret information early? Well, yes, I know we don't tell you as much as we used to really early, and were we not being so secretive these days, we would probably have told you the name of the game, shown you a trailer, and generally been starting a media campaign so far. Okay, okay... you feel bad, yes... yes... you feel betrayed. At least, that's what the gaming blogs have been saying... at least when we have the chance to read them after we've been rolling around in our piles of money for several hours a day. We're kind of surprised, but... maybe it makes sense. Maybe...

"Anyways, we want to make sure that you're not too sad because we want you to have smiles on your faces... and so we know that we've got to string you on a little bit. You know, for old time's sake, you know? Give you a reason not to give up on us completely; heavens, we wouldn't want that! You are the part of the reason we have this much money! So we want you to know that... we've got some big surprises coming your way! Oh... but... we can't tell you anything about that. I mean, we've got to save this up. You know... secrets and whatnot. That's the way of things these days; we are a new Nintendo, you know. And so... we just want to make sure that, you know, six months from now, we've got you covered. We don't want you to, in the meantime, do something stupid like sell your Wii back to GameStop or anything. Because then you'd be sorry. Really sorry. PLEASE DON'T SELL YOUR WII, OKAY! DON'T DO IT! Because we're hoping really hard that we'll be able to tell you by then. Not quite sure yet... but... just wait. We may actually surprise you!"

(Honestly, the bold part is the key phrase that drives the entire thing.)

Actually, Nintendo's recent secretive habits remind me of their older campaigns back during the reign of the NES. Some might suggest their secretive projects caused a lot of gamers to leave for the Genesis, though, since few people really knew much about the SNES back in 89, and possibly would've waited for it rather than blow 200 on an inferior system.
