Artist is one Katsudo Terada, recogniseable as the artist behind most old Nintendo Power guides, Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy especially. He did a very brilliant run of Secret of Mana art that worked as a kind of sketchbook for the guide, which was written in journal-format. Man those were the good old days. I'm not complaining about Zelda artwork, for sure, especially Twilight (Ganon, come on), but it's nice to see a western influence as opposed to the more anime oriented approach. Thoughts? ![]() vs Imaginaaaaaaaaaation... Last edited by Erdawn Il Deus; 03-29-2010 at 07:16 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

AI linked me to a bunch of awesome examples [one was of the Master Sword in the woods]. The detail and epic of these never cease to amaze me. :{) |

Man does anyone think running into Horsehead would be more horrifying than ****ing Gohma or some ****? Not to say, more horrifying than something like Dead Hand, who was Nightmare Fuel, but it seems that my brain could wrap its head around a monster but less so around something that doesn't make sense or would be to my understanding an abberation towards nature. |

Horsehead, though, yeah that **** could be intimidating if done well. I've always loved the stuff that Terada did for Zelda, it and the other stuff in the LttP guide has always been the definitive Zelda image, for me. The other stuff doesn't hold a candle to it in scope. |

With the 2D games we got to see more elaborate imagery because we didn't have to translate that to the games. With the 3D games we have to use motion capture and stuff like that to translate graphics over. I miss the days when we saw illustrations of the games' characters doing things like sitting around the campfire, doing major battles, etc. I believe they even made one of the events in OoT for LttP, although it was done as a large-scale battle rather than as a one-man show. -CSM |

Remember the instruction booklet for LttP? Full of cool art and crap. I'm not bashing the art from OoT through on to TP (Ganondorf in Twilight Princess is at his utmost badass, a kind of nightmarish shogun), but there seems to be a decided lack of art in recent games. LoZ concept art: Manhandla! Digdogger! Some OoT: Last game, with artwork I think - Morpha! Water Temple! Shadow Temple! Fire Temple! Dodongo's Cavern! Spirit Temple![/img] LttP: Sages sealing Ganon away. The Golden Land. |

Older heroes tend to be in the grittier types of games, the Metal Gears or the Eternal Darknesses or what have you. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |
