SKYWARD SWORD

Displayed at E3 five minutes ago.

Discuss.

I wonder what the scenes at the beginning were. Also, the title implies that Link actually can fly with this new sword!

E3 2010: Nintendo Reveals Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword

Quote:
To kick off their E3 press conference today, Nintendo finally revealed The Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword, a brand new Zelda for the Wii.
Skyward Sword features an adult-looking Link as in Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, but the graphics are cel-shaded as in Wind Waker (but not quite as heavily stylized). In Skyward Sword, players will use the Wiimote with the MotionPlus add-on to control Link's sword., and the Nunchuck to raise and control the shield. The MotionPlus indeed creates one-to-one sword control. To demonstrate the game, Shigeru Miyamoto himself teleported (seriously) to the stage.

Miyamoto said only A and B buttons on Wiimote and the C and Z buttons on the Nunchuck are used in the game, with everything else being motion controlled. You can Z target enemies like always, and Miyamoto showed how some enemies require specific sword strikes (vertical or horizontal) to defeat.

It must be noted, though, that the demonstration was fraught with problems -- it appeared difficult for Miyamoto to strike the sword with accuracy, and he complained by the end of "wireless interference," assuring everything in the game actually works smoothly.

Some other details: Holding the sword up charges it, and you can shoot sword beams after it charges. The spin attack is also back, but it wasn't clear how it's performed. Sword swinging will also be used in puzzles, such as spinning the sword around to confuse an eye on a door, letting you attack it and gain entrance.

Holding the A button out of combat lets Link run, and you can "run up cliffs and walls," but that wasn't demonstrated. The B button opens a radial menu to choose items. Items shown included bombs, the sling shot (Miyamoto also had trouble shooting tiny spiders with the slingshot), and the bow and arrow (which, yes, didn't work very well).

Miyamoto also showed how you can place bombs on the ground, toss them, or roll them with the Wiimote. The bow is shot like in Wii Sports Resort, holding the Nunchuck up and pulling the Wiimote back to shoot an arrow.

A couple of new items were also shown, including a beetle you throw and control as it flies around with the Wii remote. It can be used to pick up items...which, again, was difficult for Miyamoto to demonstrate. Another new item was a whip. Flicking the wiimote in different directions sends the whip cracking where you want it to, and you can use it to stun enemies before attacking them, or to grab items and pull them to you.

Sadly, Miyamoto ended the demo saying development will take through the end of the year, so Skyward Sword isn't coming until 2011. We'll send along anything else we can possibly find out about the game as soon as it comes in.

I loooooove the graphical style. I haven't bothered to check whether or not fanboys are whining about it or the motion controls, but it looks beautiful. Definitely excited about this. I may replay TP in order to stave off anticipation from the year-long wait we still have.

Skyward Sword?? More like That's Right Girl Friend

I'm hungry for another Zelda game and this doesn't seem like a disappointment to me.

^^^Yeah, that's what I meant. I knew the minute the words "cel" and "shaded" were added into the mix again somebody would have to make some ****. Oh well. I really like it myself, it's purty.

E3 2010: Nintendo Developer Roundtable--LIVE! - News

The developer's roundtable has given some info about the plot. Link lives in the sky.

Quote:
Posted 6:46 PST
The sky is also very important to the game, apparently.

Posted 6:46 PST
The Skyward Sword will become the Master Sword, apparently.

Posted 6:46 PST
It's the "master sword."

Posted 6:46 PST
The sword possesses intelligence, and will assume the semi-human form in the teaser poster shown last year.

Posted 6:46 PST
The reason he goes down is in the title--it's the Skyward Sword.

Posted 6:46 PST
However, the revelation prompts a series of events which forces him to go to the land beneath the clouds.

Posted 6:44 PST
One day, he learns there is a land below the clouds ruled by evil forces.

Posted 6:44 PST
In this Zelda, Link is a little boy born into a land above the clouds called Skyloft.

Posted 6:43 PST
He said the scene this morning showing Link diving off a cliff into a bank of clouds was meant to be "impactful" because it was an important event in the story.
This struck me as important:

He apologizes that a glitch on stage this morning was wireless interference, and a majority of people in the audience who have played the game agree.

^ The release date doesn't bother me that much. I have too little money, so it's a godsend. Also, I'd like to see a NEW main sword. That's one thing that'd be nice to change. The Master Sword is starting to lose its touch and legendary status by appearing way too damn much.

No wonder I love Majora's Mask, lots of new neat swords(with one repeat being the Kokiri's Sword), but I digress.

Hey! I resemble that remark! D:<

Actually, I quite like the graphics. A nice follow up to Twilight Princess if I do say so myself. I like how it has more color.

The only thing I'm annoyed with is the extreme difference between the concept art and the game itself. Had the concept art not made us believe it was a Twilight Princess 2 so to speak, I wouldn't even be disappointed in that.

The other thing wer're bitching about is the right-handed-ness of Link. I hope there's a left-hand option.

HAHAHA THE GIRL IS A SWORD

The graphics engine looks fricken amazing, and it's what they should've done in the first place as far as WW goes, IMO.

OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Firstly, the descriptions of the sword controls on gamespot.com are HYPE-WORTHY. The nunchuck is your controllable shield that you move up or down or bash with, and the main controller is your sword that you jab and move around. It's going to be WAY closer to what we've all been wanting than TP's flailing.

Also, I effing LOVE the art style. Agree 100% with AI here-- although I didn't mind what WW did, this is taking that and making it just plain effing BADASS.

Squee.

No but really, I agree with Kargath. But it does sound tight. Too bad you can't kill things with the whip.
