Nostalgia aside... I think I'd put LttP and OoT on the same tier. Both are fun to play, both have decent sidequests, both have good bosses, both are fairly replayable.

I liked Majora's Mask and Wind Waker better than both.

Not an Argument, I fully respect different opinions

It seems Zelda Universe hates me for some reason. Probably cause I'm not a Splitter.

I in fact posted this one first, I posted it on 2 forums cause I didn't think anyone besides me watson both.

Ocarina of Time is my favorite because it was the first game I played of Zelda. But, AlttP clearly is the better game.

OoT had the same formula and mostly the same story, just the gameplay felt awesome because it was in 3D.

In fact. I think Zelda needs new life breathed into it. I'm a big BIG fan but, the whole AlttP formula is getting a bit old. And this is coming from someone born in 1999 -_-

Just my opinion and I hope I don't get flamed. SS looks very good though =D

Honestly, I enjoyed Link to the Past more than Ocarina. However, the title really should be "I enjoyed Link to the Past more than Ocarina of Time." It's subjective or whatever.

LttP is the best in the series. OoT is like the FFVII of the Zelda series. -CSM

Well, there are a few major points here to observe:

OoT forces contact with many wooden NPC's as a means of moving plot.
OoT removes the aiming element from combat, timing is only left.
OoT does not have a final, artistic appearance due to the choice to use 3D in a time during which polycounts were so rudimentary as to limit gameplay.
OoT rarely makes use of the added depth of height in a way that distinguishes its gameplay.
OoT lacks an overworld.
OoT's field overworld is so large and empty, devs were forced to provide transportation to accomodate player boredom.
OoT restricts exploration to its areas, making the game more linear, by way of artificial and unimaginative means - (you must have an order from the king, etc)

But honestly, there's a lot of small tweaks to things like audio systems which helps create a strong feeling of atmosphere in OoT.

Calling it the LttP formula is a bit inaccurate. They've really just employed the stripped down version OoT established more than anything. What Nintendo and fans have found out is that attempts to inflate the OoT formula leave larger games rather hollow.

There are few things I have ever experienced in video games that even come close to the excitement rush I felt fencing with Iron Knuckles in Adventure of Link.

Zelda II was more enjoyable to me than A Link to the Past.

It's not much of a comparison for me. LttP is my first or second favorite Zelda game depending on how I'm feeling and OoT is somewhere near the middle of that list.

Arrow BTW, I am also a witch.

I think this is a perfect example of what differentiates classic 2D sprite-based games and modern 3D games. They're both excellent games in their own right based on the same mythos and by the same developer. I think CSM's comparison of Ocarina to FF7 is spot on.

It might be a bit unfair for Ocarina, though. It was an early entry in the 3D action/adventure genre, and Link to the Past had a decade of know-how on 2D sprite-based games. With 3D, a lot of video games tropes had to be invented and re-invented, all while fitting inside the pretty obtuse hardware limitations. Things like camera control, lock-on targeting (which has become a staple in 3D games), textures, etc. I think it's pretty impressive that such an early entry managed to stick itself in so many top-ten lists of "BEST GAME EVAR!".

Honestly, the fact that OoT has lava dragon whack-a-mole as a bossfight makes it awesome in my opinion.

In all seriousness, though, I will stand by OoT as being my preferred game of the two. That's not to say that LttP wasn't super super enjoyable, I just really preferred oot. One of the most epic moments in a video game I've played to date was escaping from a giant collapsing tower with the princess you just rescued and then taking on of the most menacing-looking bosses ever, and then besting him with deku nuts and the megaton hammer rather than the sword you're supposed to use. x{D

That said I like MM better than both sooooooooooooo :{3

ALTTP hands down. For me, the order of favorites goes TWW, TP, ST, ALTTP, OOT.

I haven't played "A Link to the Past", but anything is better than Ocarina of Time. Stupid Daku tree.

There are much worse games out there than OoT. (Yes, I 'came around'. Settle yourselves.)
