Differences in Japanese Games

Some, uh, things I found pretty funny.

This channel also has (in addition to a lot of MM stuff):

I can't help but find this kind of stuff fascinating. It seems like the original JP version of Majora was...uh, kind of irritating. And some of those LttP glitches are just hilarious.

Interesting stuff.

I can remember a few differences off-hand, which all happen to be religion related. The changes were made due to NOA's strict "do not mention religion" rule in the past. For example, in the Japanese version of The Legend of Zelda, the "Book of Magic" is called the "Bible". Also, the Japanese name of A Link to the Past is Triforce of the Gods. In the Japanese versison of LttP, Agahnim is a priest, while in the English version he's just a wizard. And of course there's also the Muslim chanting/star and crescent Mirror Shield thing for Ocarina of Time, which was never removed from the Japanese version of the game as far as I know.

^I'm almost positive my copy of Ocarina (gold cart) still has the crescent on the Mirror Shield.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^ Version 1.0 didn't have those fixes, actually. Although there are Gold 1.1 Cartridges that have fixes.

Yeah, mine does too. I was too young to notice that it was the Muslim symbol at the time.

People complaining about the chanting in the Fire Temple was total bull, though. That track was awesome.

^Besides, no one complained about the Gregorian chanting in the Temple of Time.

People let it slide because they didn't have the parallel fourths.

Funny thing: the decision to get rid of the Fire Temple chanting was made before the original version of OoT was even released.

All of the MM gameplay differences look more like improvements in the American version to me.

And I am a bit confused. My version of OoT DEFINITELY has the chant in the fire temple and the crescent on the mirror shield, but it isn't a gold cartridge. Are those two things just in ALL early versions of the game?

There were three versions. There's the original version, which came in gold and gray. There's the second version (gray cartridge only), which fixed a few glitches. Then there's the third version (gray cartridge only), which fixed more glitches, changed the color of Ganondorf's blood from red to green, and removed the chant/star and crescent.

^Green? Was he coughing up bile? That's even more disturbing than blood.

If you watch it on YouTube, you can turn on the interactive transcript that explains and points out all the differences.

Recolors of blood tend to always lead to unfortunate implications. Worst offenders are yellow, white, and blue.

The music didn't get changed until 1.2, CL. If you have a grey cartridge, it could be 1.0, 1.1, or 1.2, but it's most likely 1.1 if the chanting is still in. Here:

Supposedly in Link's Awakening, the Mermaid's necklace was actually a bra.
