Beg for Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and You Just Might Get It

Beg for Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and You Just Might Get It

Quote:
Nintendo gave The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time the full remake treatment for its 3DS release last month. The company has yet to commit to remaking fellow N64 title Majora's Mask, a game that some prefer to OoT. While it's no guarantee, clamoring for a 3DS remake might convince Nintendo to make it happen.

"It's been 13 years since Ocarina of Time was originally released, and one of the big things that we made this remake possible was that there was an outpour of emotions from people who said they would like to see this game done," explained longtime Zelda director and producer Eiji Aonuma in an interview with Nintendo Power (via Zelda Informer, CVG). "We said we could do it in 3D, so we did. I think certainly if there was a similar output of emotion and clamor from fans for a remake of Majora's Mask, it wouldn't be an utter impossibility."

Suggesting that an outpouring of support would convince Nintendo to do something seems like a joke in light of what's happened with Operation Rainfall and its attempts to encourage Nintendo to bring several Wii RPGs to North America. (Nintendo's answer, in sum: No.)

Still, should Ocarina of Time 3D do well enough, you'd think Nintendo would be more inclined to work on something involving Zelda than it would be to do anything with the RPGs in question. Ocarina 3D sold 283,000 units last month in the United States, a fairly strong figure given the relatively small 3DS install base.

Majora's Mask employed a day and night cycle where players had to repeat the same three days over and over again. Not everyone was a fan of that particular aspect, though Aonuma sees how it could translate to work well on a portable system like 3DS.

"Thinking on it now, having a handheld Majora's Mask where you could kind of just set things down on your own time -- close it, set it aside and come back to it later -- might be a gameplay element some fans will actually take to and might really appreciate. Especially considering how you really had to rush through the original game, in a sense."

In light of this, don't be surprised to see fan campaigns popping up soon asking Nintendo to commission Majora's Mask 3D. I know I'm on board -- let us know if you feel the same way in the comments.

Operation Moonfall, I wish I could say I came up with that name.

Sadly, I didn't, but I know the guy who did. X)

You know...I get it. I really do. People like OoT and MM, so they want 3DS versions. I understand, and have made my peace with it.

That said, I consider 'new games getting developed' in all cases preferable to 'old games getting rehashed'. Especially when said old ones aren't exactly my faves to begin with.

Ah well. Not like I have a 3DS anyway, or was even thinking about getting one.

Boo, I hear you. Loud and clear.

Personally, I'd rather not curse any dev team to have to make a remake of any game. The last thing I want is to be assigned the same task. X)

The only reason I want remakes of my old favorites is that my N64 got kidnapped by my sister and I have no other platform than my handhelds to take with me to college. So in my case, 3DS versions of OoT and MM are super extremely widely welcome. :{D

I actually have never played Majora's Mask. But then again I could just get it for the Virtual Console. Not like I have a 3DS.
