What's your favorite version of recurring enemies?

In 25 years, the various monsters of Hyrule and other lands have gone through a lot of changes, both in behavior and in the way they look. Of all the various incarnations of these monsters, what ones are your favorite? I'll give a few examples:

Here you can see the bomb-hating, Triceratops-like Dodongo found in earlier Zelda titles; the fire-breathing lizard Dodongo from the OoT era whose weak spot was its tail; and the relatively small gecko-like Dodongo from TP, which acted more or less like the OoT Dodongo. My favorite would probably be the early design. I think I would be cool to see big, rhinoceros-like Dodongos again, that are impervious to damage from the outside.

Here's some Armos statues: the bipedal stone knights such as those in The Legend of Zelda; the hopping monoliths that attack by lunging at Link, like the ones in OoT; and the hopping statues that have a weak spot on their backs like those from WW and TP. It's hard to say which of these designs I prefer, but I do like the strategy that the Armos from WW and TP provide.

Finally, here's some Gohmas. There's the fairly spiderlike, six-legged Gohma from TLoZ; the decidely more crustacean-like, bipedal Queen Gohma from OoT; the gargantuan, centipede-like Gohma from OoT; and the completely spiderlike Armogohma from TP. All varieties of Gohma are pretty fun to fight, but aesthetically I really love the designs of Gohma and Armogohma from WW and TP, respectively.

What are some of your favorites, VGF? You don't have to post pictures, but pictures are cool.

Moblins and their newer versions in the later games. I loved the Wind Waker ones.

I also love the Darknuts, including my terribad joke. "Darknuts, once you go black, you'll never go back." Also, Wind Waker versions for the one.

And of course, the Tektites. Ocarina of Time ones were my favorites.

Octoroks, my favorite!

Except these things.

These aren't ocotoroks.

Now THAT'S an Octorok.

I know the OoT Octoroks actually look a lot more like the official LoZ art, but they're only in rivers and that's dumb. :P

I must admit I have a soft spot for most of the OoT versions because they were my first and my most experienced. However, WW Gohma looks so much cooler.

The Armos actually splintered into two enemies in their second appearance in LttP.

The OoT design wasn't very different from those that took the Armos name in LttP

Although it also included the Armos Knight boss design

Most notably, though was the existence of Rocklops or Eyegore
It bears a stronger resemblance to the original armos design, and actually has a closer behavior pattern.

And those became really freaky looking in Majora's Mask.

I think it actually changed in its native language as well, although I somewhat doubt it was called armos in the first place. I'll check later.

According to the Zelda Wiki, Armos is "Amosu" in Japanese, Armos Knight is "Degu (Big) Amosu", and Eyegore/Rocklops is "Aigoru". So the names in Japan are more-or-less identical to the English names.

I think the Armos definitely look their best in the original game, and the Twilight Princess version just looks stupid.
I have to agree with Marilink, even if the official artwork for the first game showed the octoroks as giant land-based otcopuses with teeth, that design looks stupid. They look better as the round cute things that they've now commonly been depicted as.
Does anyone else miss the Pol's voices? I find it odd that these killer jelly-rabbit things haven't made their way into the 3D games.

Does Phantom Hourglass count as a 3D Zelda?

not really, no.

Best Dondongo: OoT because I like the design.
Best Stalfos: WW because they're fun and not ridiculously easy to beat.
Best Redead: OoT. (WW is close second) TP is last place because they ditch the whole "rape" thing and indetad go for
Best Moblin: WW because they're just so expressive and fun.
Best Gohma: TP because ah oh no spiiiiiiders
Best Beamos: LttP because they are actually a threat. OoT ones are so piss-easy. LttP is just all, "that's a nice heart you have thBAM"
Best Darknut: WW because, again, expressive.

I think WW has some pretty memorable enemies. They've got soul, that's for sure.

also, funny story about Gohma: Oracle of Seasons made me think Gohma was usually a crab.

I know, but seeing as the games take place from an overhead perspective, I've never considered the DS Zeldas to be truly 3D. What I mean is that they haven't shown up in a proper 3D game, with a controllable camera and from any perspective other than straight down on top of their heads.
