Hyrule Historia

To end the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda in true epic fashion, Nintendo have announced an art book known as Hyrule Historia.

The 274 page book contains three main chapters.
The first details the story of Skyward Sword, as the origin of Hyrule and the series in general.
The second chapter is a compendium of Hyrule's history across the entire series. The third chapter contains a collection of concept artwork from each game, nicely rounding out the package.

Furthermore, the book will also include a 32 page comic based on Skyward Sword, featuring 8 pages in full color and a story that was edited by series producers from the games.

The book promises to be an essential collectors edition for any Zelda fan. It goes on sale in Japan for 3,255 yen (about $41 US Dollars) on December 21st this year. No news of an English translation of the book has yet been announced.

This looks amazing. If there's not an English translation, I might roundhouse kick a deer to the face.

More pictures inside!

They also said it included an "entire history of Hyrule." I smell an official timeline. I'm not sure how coherent it'll be but at least it'll be interesting. x{D

In other news, they better translate this.

I was thinking an official timeline, too...we'll see. I'm okay either way.

Hopefully this will be a chain reaction for other game series too for more book compendiums.

Ha! Beat me to it. I saw the story on Kotaku Australia last night but was too lazy to repost then.

I can't emphasize enough how awesome this looks. Totally want it. Hell, I want my art in it! ML, if you get a copy you will be required to print Blind and TGIAS and hastily insert it in the book.

Whether or not the main timeline is said, it's still worth it. Here's hoping for a translation. I don't know every Japanese word, after all.

^^Done and done. Might have done it without you even saying anything! :P

You'd have to provide me with supah-hi-res versions for printing, though.

Haha, well I sadly don't think there are super-high res versions of either of those, but I'll see what I've got.

^Haha, don't worry about it. If the quality's bad I'll just print them smaller.

I so want this. I've been saying Nintendo needed to make a Zelda art book for forever now.

Well, I've always liked the idea of a comprehensive art book for Zelda. Seems kind of bittersweet if they're going to cram it full of every instance of the Windwaker Link stuff that wasn't redesigned just because it was used to promote subsequent games.

Then again, I never liked OoT Link's hair, either.

Hyrule Historia: Zelda Timeline Revealed [RUMOR]

Apparently, Ocarina of Time split the timeline into three, not two.

It makes sense, but at that point you might as well say that the games aren't related at all. Still, I'm okay with this timeline.

I don't necessarily think it's the Hero of Time failing, but rather it's the timeline created when Link would pull the master sword out and go to the sacred realm. Like, you go back and forth through time so much in that game, there's a loose end created in time--the success of Adult Link affects line B and C, but the "what if" affects line A. That's what I think anyway, I'd like to see what Ninty has to say.

Bright side: Now, when they make Zelda games, they'll at least have a time line in mind.

So the Oracles happen between LttP & Awakening? Didn't see that one coming.
Also, I thought Four Swords & FSA had the same Link in them?
Also also, I find it a little disconcerting that all of the classic games fall under the OoT-failure branch, meaning that technically they can't even happen.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^nono, that's not what it is.

When Link pulls the master sword out, that in and of itself creates two timelines--one in which Link comes back and one in which he doesn't. Then, off of that split, we have our classic Young Link and Adult Link timelines.

So all three happen, but in different parallels caused by the time travel.

gimme a sec, I'll draw it up.

Right, the two timelines are caused by Link's travel with the Master Sword, I know. If you beat the game, both of those timelines happen.
The third timeline comes out of failure, out of dying, out of a freaking GAME OVER. That shouldn't even count.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
