Welcome to the relaunch of the
War Department. Those of you who were fans of VGH probably
remember this as one of our most popular interactive sections
back in the days when dinosaurs roamed the Internet (aka 1998-2000
AD).
So what's this all about? As
you're aware (hopefully), the gaming world is made up of a
variety of systems. Of those systems, each of us has his/her
own personal favorite. Even those who own all of them or who
aren't particularly loyal to any company still favors something
for some reason. The object of the War Dept. is for you to
tell us what those reasons are. As time goes on (as you can
see in the archives), you will
then be able to debate what other readers said about the various
systems.
So you can see how it operated
in the past, we've put the archives from 1999 and 2000 here.
Just in case you're wondering
"What's the point of points?" here's an answer to
that question. Points have two purposes.
- They're used to determine where each system stands in
the war. For each of your letters, we may add or subtract
points to or from a given system. The one with the most
points will be in the lead, indicating that participants
like it best.
- Contests. We'll be giving you more info on this soon.
Suffice it to say that the person(s) who gets the most points
in the contest will win the prize(s). We plan to have regular
contests where we give away free games and peripherals in
the near future.
Note: the points have been reset to 0 for all systems. Feel
free to comment on any of them, from PC to consoles to portables.
