WAR
DEPARTMENT--June 16,1999
grtmilenko69@hotmail.com--Playstation
is so far beyond N64, it's truly sad. To defend their systems, N64
owners come up with the lamest reasons to defend their systems.
"C.D.'s
are too easy to break.", this one is the most stupid, and one of
the most commonly used. If you can't take good enough care of your
own belongings to keep a C.D. in one piece, you don't deserve to
have any expensive electronics. Besides, I doubt hardly anyone has
actually broken a C.D., they just say that because they presume
it's easy to break, C.D.'s are harder to break than it seems.
"Playstation's
controls are too wierd with the shapes." Look at N64's stupid controllers!
When "down" can mean 3 different things, is that not confusing?!
The C buttons are the worst ideas you can possibly have. And with
the horribly misplaced "Z" button, boy, you really have one great
assymetrical masterpiece, now don't you?
"Memory
cards for Playstation are too expensive and you need too many of
them." The exact same thing can be said about N64. Besides, you
can buy large memory cards for either system for only $5-$10 more
that hold many times the amount on one regular memory card. The
only downside is that they're not made by the official company,
so they're prone to flaws.
This
one was the most implausible and most ridiculous, "If you leave
the system on accidentally all day, the laser lens will wear out."
Now, this one is pretty easy to understand why it is so stupid.
I don't really have to say much. I suppose it could be true, but
it would actually take a lot more than one day, maybe if you left
it on while you went on vacation or something, but not a day.
Another
thing is when N64 supporters are talking about games to come or
great multiplayer games, or listing games for some other reason,
about half of them are for Playstation as well, and aren't listed
when they list the always mysteriously short list of Playstation's
games. Like when ALMEHDA@aol was talking about games to come, He
listed four games for Playstation, but when he listed the games
for 64, two of them were also coming out for Playstation, but were
once again mysteriously not listed!! This is not the only case,
definitely not, this is just an example, I've seen it a lot. Taylorso@worldet.att
did it when listing multiplayer games, four out of his 6 games listed
were out on Playstation, too. And the other 2, although not the
same games, have very similar counterparts on PSX. So if you make
your stupid N64 vs. PSX game lists, don't mask games as N64 titles
when they're on PSX and expect that everyone is as dumb as you are
and not notice. (3 Points)(+2 PSX)
DNukem170@aol.com--I'd
like to question Alex1255 about his bashing of N64. Keep in mind
I also play PSX (not as much as N64 though).
<<Playstation
has better sound and equal graphics.(n64 is smoother but PSX can
run cinemas). >>
Well,
PSX may have better sound than early N64 games, but now, they're
about equal. Zelda and Rogue Squadron's music is tough to beat.
Oh, and what's this about cinemas? Try Zelda, Starfox, and Smash
Bros. among others.
<<Playstation
has a huge library of games and also the best ones. N64 has crap
games like Dual Heroes( rated the worst game of 98 by EGM), Chameleon
twist, and so on. >>
First
off, Chameleon Twist, though terrible, is mediocre, not horrible.
Second, ever heard of Mario Party, Smash Bros., Zelda, Goldeneye,
StarFox, Rogue Squadron, WipeOut64, F-ZeroX, ASB '00, Slugfest,
as well as Silicon Valley and Body Harvest? These aren't the only
good games, but it's enough for this point.
<<N64
is always delaying almost every game that comes out. e.g. Zelda(1
year), Perfect Dark(3 months), Pokemon stadium( 2months) and so
on. Sony virtually never delays, even if they do, you don't notice
it because they have so many games. >>
Well,
first off, Zelda is a HUGE game, as well as Perfect Dark. Pokémon
Stadium is actually Pokémon Stadium 2 in Japan, and that
just came out over there, now they have to translate everything,
put it into American carts, and ship it. That usually takes a few
months. Yes, Sony has few delays, but they are always on big name
games. FF7 was, according to Square, never completed because Sony
told them to finish it when they did instead of delaying it even
further than they did. Not only has FF8 been delayed, but so was
MGS. There are other ones too, but I don't feel up to searching
now.
<<There
are only a few decent games on N64 while there's about 30 for PSX.
Zelda and goldeneye are the only two worth buying. >>
Here
are some other ones: Revenge, Rogue Squadron, F-Zero X, Smash Bros.,
Mario Party, Silicon Valley, Body Harvest, Mario Kart 64, DKR, MK4,
ASB '00, Blitz, Slugfest, and Banjo-Kazooie for starters.
<<N64
has mostly "kiddie" games although N64 owners tries to deny it.
PSX has a wide range of games from kiddie to sexual to violence
to whatever you want.>>
First
off, I don't buy games because they are violent or what not.(That's
why I never bought TR, it just plain sucked, the whole series).
Second, You've got Goldeneye, Rogue Squadron, Turok 2, and Zelda
leading the pack of "non-kiddie" games. Of course, I consider a
kiddie game games that were made for preschoolers, like Elmo's ABC's
and stuff like that. Those kids wouldn't get very far in "kiddie"
games like Banjo-Kazooie, Silicon Valley, Mario Party, Mario 64,
StarFox, etc.
<<Nintendo's
mascot (mario) is old, weak, and dorky. Crash is cool, new, and
fast. >>
So
is Sonic but noone bashes him! Another point, Although Mario isn't
the most handsomest cartoon in the world, Crash is just plain ugly.
The only good shot I've seen of him is on the cover of Warped! Besides,
Crash isn't even officially Sony's mascot! Another thing, without
Mario, you wouldn't even HAVE Crash. Plus, have you tried out Mario
on Mario Party and SmashBros.? He may be a little slow, but his
attacks are potent, and can do a lot of damage.
<<Nintendo
never delivers their promises(the 64dd, where the hell is it? I've
been waiting ever since I got my 64 in october!) >>
I
never paid much attention to DD, but I recently read a report that
the 64DD was finished a short while after the N64 came out, it was
even shown at Tokyo Game Show a few years ago, but Nintendo couldn't
find a big name games besides Zelda, which moved to cart, and EarthBound,
which moved to cart. Had Nintendo had some big name games, it wouldl've
been ready a long time ago.
<<PSX
is cd-based which gives them a great advantage over carts because
it can play FMV's, better sound, and much more memory space...96
megs. vs. 655 megs. >>
So
you're saying that every one of PS's games has better sound than
any N64 game? I urge you to listen to the opening demo of Mystical
Ninja(even if it IS in Japanese), and listen to the music in Rogue
Squadron, Zelda, and various other games. Second, EarthBound is
512 megs big, so is RE2, not far off from 655. N64 CAN play FMV's,
as in the case of Wheel and Jeopardy! even if the cart space is
32 megs.
<<Playstation
is the choice system for teens, while nintendo sticks to little
babies. >>
Uhh,
I wouldn't exactly say that now. Vigilante 8 and Revenge are still
steaming off the charts, as well as Goldeneye. Surprisingly, Smash
Bros. and Pokémon are selling faster than you can say "Olly
Olly Oxen Free!". Pokémon in the US has sold almost 3 MILLION
units, and yet it's a kiddie game. Every Pokémon game, even
ones that are N64 and in the Top Ten, are selling like crazy. See,
the thing I see it is, a game is only good if the gameplay is great
and is very fun. To me, graphics and sound are less of a minority.
One of the reasons Game Boy is still going after over 10 years of
being on the market. (+3 Points)(+1 N64)
ALenin2700@aol.com--I
will now pledge my support to the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast has a
huge jump on everyone. This gives Sega 1 1/2 yrs. by itself as the
only 128-bit system. If this modem thing works out, and EA comes
aboard, there really is no need to get a Psx 2. I have also heard
that building the PSX 2 will take enormous money, and who has to
pay? You the console buyer. With a great library of games at launch,
and many more to come, the Dreamcast is #1. (+1

cmellis@webtv.net--In
my opinion, the N64 and PSX are nearly equal. Can't we stop bickering
about it, and just play them? It's not the actual system that matters,
it's what you like playing better that matters.
Personally,
I like the Playstation better. The reasons are simple...
1.)
Cost. I, being 16, don't want to go into a store and pay $60+ for
a game that is just as equal to that of a $40 game. It may only
be $20, but after you pay for three or four games, it can add up
quickly.
2.)
Sony, and this is only my opinion, seems to be putting quality games
out on the market faster than Nintendo. From the sites I visit,
and the magazines I read, it seems that I hear about more N64 delays
then I do Playstation delays.
3.)
The controllers for the Playstation are a little easier to use.
The analog stick for the Nintendo controller tends to be a little
to sensitive (a good thing, and a bad thing), and from personal
experience, they break easily, too. Not necessarily snap off, but
they do tend to become un-centered. Plus, face the facts, you need
a third hand to use the Nintendo controllers for many games.
4.)
The add-ons for Sony are better. Why pay for a controller, AND a
rumble pack, when you can get both in one package? And the Sony
brand Analog Controller is powered from the Playstation, not through
batteries (even if they only have to be changed a few times a year).
5.)
The games are equal. Let's stop saying that one system's games are
better then another's. Look at it this way. Nintendo has two of
the best games ever in Zelda and Goldeneye. But the Playstation
counters with a great deal of high quality games, plus some great
ones (Gran Turismo, MGS, etc.) When it comes down to it, the games
are nearly equal. The Playstation gets my vote, however, because
of the mass amount of games.
Well,
on that note, I'll end. And just for the record, for all you people
bickering: According to a friend of mine from Game-Revolution Magazine,
the Playstation was originally made to be an add-on to the SNES.
It was to be called the Playstation X (hence, the shortened version:
PSX). So for all you people saying that the Playstation sucks, remember,
it was your precious Nintendo's idea to begin with. :0) (+3
