BLOCKBUSTER EXPANDS
LINEUP
May 13, 2002
Blockbuster has announced plans to increase
its video game focus. Beginning Memorial Day weekend, over
4300 stores nationwide will be revamped with a new look and
more space for PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and GameBoy Advance games.
This will include rental, retail, and previously played selections.
"Blockbuster's goal is to become the leading
one-stop location for gamers who want to buy or rent their
games," said Nick Shepherd, executive vice president and chief
concept officer for Blockbuster Inc. "We have a brand that
is already highly associated with games, the marketing ability,
a large network of stores and an extensive database of millions
of active gamers. We believe that we have developed unique
rental and retail offerings that will allow us to achieve
our goal."
To kick off the remodeling, the company will
launch a "Rent it! Like it! Buy it!" program that
will allow gamers to get $5 off some games they buy after
a rental. Additionally, during the summer, gamers can rent
an unlimited number of games (up to two at a time) for $19.99
per month. Finally, June 24 through Labor Day will be All
Week Long rental week.
