EA SUPPORTS MART ACTIONS
September 8, 2000
Electronic Arts today released a statement
of support for retailers who support the industry's rating
system on games following the announcement by Kmart, Wal-Mart,
and other mass merchandisers that they would require proof
of age before selling video games rated "Mature" by the Entertainment
Software Ratings Board.
"While M-rated games are a very small percentage
of EA's portfolio, we applaud the decision by retailers to
enforce the ESRB rating system," said Electronic Arts CEO
Larry Probst.
"The ESRB rating system provides game fans and
parents a clear and useful tool for evaluating content when
they purchase interactive entertainment. The decision by these
retailers to support that system -- to require proof of age
when buying M-rated games -- adds another layer of clarity
and protection."
