THE THING
September 21, 2000
Universal Interactive Studios and Konami entered
into a production and publishing agreement for Universal Studio's
The Thing.
"The Thing is a phenomenal franchise that gamers
have been requesting for a long time," said Mr. Wilson. "This
franchise presents an incredible opportunity to draw upon
Universal's rich movie history and today's technology to create
a one-of-a-kind gaming experience."
The action adventure game is based on the movie
"The Thing," originally released in 1950 and then remade in
1982 by director John Carpenter. The video game begins where
the original movie left off, mixing elements from both the
sci-fi and horror genre. The Thing will be developed for multiple
platforms.
"We are excited about continuing a strong relationship
with UIS," said Mr. Kitaue. "The Thing continues to have strong
global appeal and has intrigued fans for half a century. With
UIS as a partner, this is sure to be a legacy in the video
games arena."
This agreement stems from a five-year global
strategic alliance announced last December to develop, market,
and distribute current and next generation interactive games.
Under the terms of the deal, Konami will market and distribute
games produced and developed by UIS based upon Universal Studios'
franchises. The Thing represents one of three titles announced
between UIS and Konami in conjunction with the Tokyo Games
Show. Also announced today were partnerships between UIS and
Konami for next generation versions of Crash Bandicoot and
Jurassic Park III.
