TAKE TWO GETS DUKE
December 5, 2000
Take-Two Interactive Software has acquired
the exclusive publishing rights for the Duke Nukem franchise
from Infogrames. The acquisition by Take-Two includes the
back catalog rights to more than six Duke Nukem products,
as well as the PC, console, and sequel rights to the upcoming
Duke Nukem Forever game.
Duke Nukem products have sold more than $120
million worldwide since the launch of Duke Nukem 3D in 1995,
making Duke Nukem one of the most commercially successful
product franchises in gaming history.
Take-Two's Gathering of Developers PC publishing
subsidiary expects to launch Duke Nukem Forever in the second
half of 2001. Also, Take-Two's Rockstar Games console publishing
subsidiary expects to develop several versions of the product
in the future for next-generation console platforms. Duke
Nukem creator and developer 3D Realms is also working with
Take-Two's Gathering of Developers on another major PC release
for 2001, Max Payne, and with Rockstar Games, on a Duke Nukem
title for PlayStation2.
"We are extremely excited about collaborating
with Gathering of Developers and Rockstar Games on our strong
line-up of next-generation titles," said Scott Miller, President
and co-founder of 3D Realms. "Both the Gathering and Rockstar
labels exemplify the attitude and commitment to quality that
will make our upcoming titles hugely successful. It's going
to be a great year."
"The acquisition of the Duke Nukem franchise
of products reflects Take-Two's and Gathering's ability to
attract and develop excellent relationships with the very
best talent in the industry," said Mike Wilson, co-founder
and Chief Executive Officer of Gathering of Developers.
