PERIPHERAL WARS
February 21, 2001
NYKO Technologies today announced it has filed
a lawsuit against two competitors, Mad Catz and NUBY, who
manufacture products similar to NYKO's patented Worm Light
accessory, which led the NPD's Video Games Accessory list
for a year. NYKO has already won five cases against infringing
manufacturers and distributors.
"The Worm Light has seen unprecedented success
as a video game peripheral, increasing our unit share in the
accessory market an incredible 650%, taking NYKO from the
number seven company to number two in its category," said
NYKO President Herschel Naghi. "It is not surprising that
other manufacturers are trying to benefit from that kind of
success. We fully expect the Worm Light to remain the top
selling product among accessories and platforms for months
to come. As the best selling NYKO product ever, we promise
to protect it, letting our patents strengthen our position
as the innovator of this type of accessory."
The lawsuit alleges that the technologies used
in NUBY's Cobra Light, as well as the Bone Light, Mech Light,
and Wild Thing, all manufactured by Mad Catz, are too similar
to those protected under NYKO's patents.
"With this new patent, we have doubled our defense
in our battle against patent infringement," said NYKO Legal
Counsel Eric Hanscom. "Companies producing knock-offs will
quickly discover that NYKO is serious about protecting its
products."
