URI GELLER SUES NINTENDO
November 1, 2000
Uri Geller, a psychic spoon bender, sued Nintendo
for hundreds of million dollars. He alleges that the company
made an evil character based on him for Pokemon. The monster
shares Geller's name (Yun Geller) and also features a bent
spoon.
Geller also alleges that the character is anti-semitic,
as he said, among other things, that the lightning bolts were
similar to Nazi symbols. He wants people to know that he has
nothing to do with what he says has a negative impact on children.
This marks the second time Nintendo has been
accused of utilizing anti-semite images in its Pokemon products.
The company had no comment on the lawsuit.
