THQ ON DOLPHIN
March 24, 2000
Brian Farrell, President & CEO of THQ, has
confirmed that they have "Dolphin systems in house."
Farrel told ON24: "Well those platforms are
buffer platforms... and I would actually add GBC to that as
well... we're the largest publisher of Game Boy Color software...
Dreamcast is pretty much the same way... We have announced
four titles for Dreamcast this year, it's tough especially
after seeing the X-Box
and now that we have Dolphin systems in house for the next-generation
Nintendo system, it's hard for us currently to see a long
term strategy for Dreamcast to make sense. We see it as a
transitional platform..."
Farrell also added that Nintendo's royalty fees
will likely be the same as PlayStation2
and Dreamcast.
"Honestly, we don't know yet. We just have not
been given that information from Nintendo. We suspect that
since, as you suggested, they are going to use an optical
based system, the model will be similar to what Sony and Sega
have established [for their consoles]."
