NEW N64 TOMORROW
June 12, 2000
Nintendo said today that it will unveil a new version of
its N64 tomorrow in Japan. This follows very closely on the
heels of Sony's announcement of its PSone (more),
something Nintendo has become known for doing of late (with
the exception of its Dolphin announcements).
In all likelihood, this will simply be a redesigned system
that will allow Nintendo to get the price of the N64 down
below the $99 pricepoint eventually, something that PSone
will allow Sony to do for Playstation. There may be a couple
of additional features for the new system, but like the PSone,
probably not enough to warrant a purchase if you already have
the original in most cases. Of course, some people do prefer
higher portability, in which case, such a system is good to
get.
Unlike most Nintendo "announcements" of late, which
never happen, we can probably expect to actually see something
from this one, as there's no reason for Nintendo to maintain
silence or delays in this case.
The announcement will be made at 1pm on Tuesday (11pm EST
Monday). Expect an update from VGF on this situation shortly
after midnight.
