SONY DENIES RECALL
March 9, 2000
Following the honeymoon after the successful
PS2 launch (more) were reports of
widespread problems, many of which were linked to memory card
troubles (more).
There seemed to be a bit of division in reports,
some saying the memory cards were recalled, and others saying
the opposite.
In an obvious attempt to put an end to the speculation,
a Sony spokesperson said, "We have not announced a recall
of any kind. Of course we are always following any customer
inquiries we get, but we really have no idea where this came
from."
End of story, right? Unfortunately, it doesn't
end there. As we mentioned yesterday, if there was no recall,
it would appear that not enough is being done about the problem,
which is a bad sign that Sony is unable to resolve it in a
timely fashion. While they may be handling complaints, they
don't (read: shouldn't, as this type of situation is not something
they would usually be prepared for since it seemingly
came out of nowhere) have enough staff to deal with the hundreds
of thousands of potential calls for one issue.
All we can do now is sit and wait and hope a)
the various hardware problems resolve themselves or b) Sony
steps in and takes action.
