SONY GETS PS3 TRADEMARK
May 22, 2000
Sony has already secured a Japanese trademark
for the PlayStation 3 (just when you thought originality in
naming systems had died down).
This is most definitely a forward looking move
(Sony wants to make sure they've got the trademark when the
time comes). What does it mean? The only thing we can be almost
certain about is that the next system from Sony will be called
PS3.
What else? You'll probably begin seeing "news"
about the PS3 in the near future. While Sony is likely working
on the system now (most companies start right around the time
they finish the previous system, though they do so in secrecy
for a couple of years before people start prying and/or leaking
info), the certainty about what we hear about the PS3 can
be best summed up as follows (at least for 2 or 3 years):
- All of it will be speculation
- None of it will be official
- Most of it will prove to be wrong/inaccurate eventually
