Sony's game division said it will announce new hardware at a conference being held by Ken Kutaragi in Tokyo on Thursday at 3pm (1am EST). However, the company did not comment on what the new hardware would be.

Early guesses are some sort of portable system or perhaps an add-on for the PS2. Whether this new hardware has to do with portability, internet connectivity, or something entirely different will remain up in the air until the conference, though.

We'll update you on the situation as soon after the conference as possible, hopefully very early Thursday morning.
