CODEWARRIOR TO EUROPE
July 14, 2000
Metrowerks today announced it has signed a deal
with Criterion Software, makers of the RenderWare 3D graphics
engine, to distribute CodeWarrior game development tools for
PlayStation2 in Europe.
A subsidiary of Canon based in Guildford, UK,
Criterion will provide technical support to European game
developers and will distribute CodeWarrior for PlayStation2
both as a bundle with RenderWare and separately.
"This partnership makes our PlayStation2 game
development tools much more accessible to our European customers,
and also provides game developers with a local resource for
technical support and assistance throughout Europe," said
Brian Gildon, director of core technology and games platforms,
Metrowerks. "Criterion is a leader in the 3D graphics rendering
space and RenderWare technology is very complementary to the
CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment."
"To help smooth the game development process,
our customers are asking us to provide them with more tightly
integrated multi-platform middleware and tools," said Mike
King, commercial director, Criterion. "CodeWarrior is a set
of market leading multi-platform game development tools. Tightly
integrating with and reselling these tools is a key part of
our strategy to better meet our customers' needs."
This agreement comes on the heels of a recent
move by Motorola (Metrowerks' parent company), who acquired
HIWARE AG, a software development tools vendor based in Basel,
Switzerland. HIWARE technology and staff will become part
of Metrowerks, and the company's Basel offices now operate
as the Metrowerks European headquarters.
