TONY HAWK TO XBOX
January 8, 2000
Activision today announced that an enhanced
version of its Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 will be the company's
first action-sports title to ship for the Xbox. Tony Hawk's
Pro Skater 2x is slated to ship among the first wave of launch
titles in fall 2001, and is one of six games that Activision
currently has in various stages of planning and development
for the new console platform.
"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x will set the standard
for sports gaming on the Xbox with its stunning graphics,
smooth animations and refined gameplay. The online capabilities
that we are including in the product will introduce the social
aspects of skateboarding to the brand for the first time,"
said Ron Doornink, President and COO, Activision, Inc. "We
have been working closely with Microsoft to develop a broad
portfolio of games for the Xbox that take full advantage of
the platform's sophisticated graphics, audio and multiplayer
features."
The game will feature the franchise's signature
gameplay and intuitive controls, in addition to more populated
environments, additional levels, realistic special effects,
and smoother lifelike animations, as well as the inclusion
of online, multiplayer gameplay and tournament hosting.
"It's incredibly exciting to have a title as
popular as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 coming to the Xbox and
being specifically designed to take advantage of the console's
power," said J Allard, general manager Xbox platform and third-party
relations. "We are working closely with Activision to help
them create a game that leverages the awesome gameplay the
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series is known for, while at the same
time taking the title to new heights by utilizing the advanced
technology found only in the Xbox."
