This is the place to talk about the London Olympics. Talk about the events, which athlete you're cheering for, etc.

It's almost time for the opening ceremony.

I'm really enjoying the opening ceremony. It's not as extravagant or insane as the Beijing one, but I think it has a lot more heart.

As a UK resident I was pretty worried about how it would play out. We have such a rich history and the country is so diverse these days I had no idea what to expect.

Danny Boyle pulled it out the bag though. It was exciting and vibrant, covering lots of ground as well as being plenty cheesy in a good way.

They're still in the qualifiers, I think. Hopefully hoops will start soon. -CSM

That opening ceremony was something else. Thought the little Bond interlude was kinda pointless, though.

The Opening was... odd... in places. I enjoyed the Bond piece, seeing Mary Poppins arrive from the 'sky' and the way the 'petals' rose up to form the Olympic flame!!!

Current medal count for Australia is... 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze!!!! :D

^I'd really like to see some other countries besides Russia, China, and the US compete for things (I'm partial to the US but I'd like to see a more intense competition). I'm just happy that Italy and Japan are competing this year. Congrats to Australia, winners of womens' swimming stuff. A big medal.

As long as the US continues its reign of the hardcourt I will be happy. -CSM

I've been watching the swimming, basketball and equestrian events. I'm looking forward to watching more swimming tonight and hope the Australians can win some more medals.

I haven't really been watching. Though I did watch people attempt to make small splashes. That's just not right. They should train bigger people to make bigger splashes.

Anyway, I thought this was funny.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/01/sport/oly ... ?hpt=hp_t2
London (CNN) -- Eight female badminton players were disqualified from the Olympics on Wednesday for trying to lose matches the day before, the Badminton World Federation announced after a disciplinary hearing.

The players from China, South Korea and Indonesia were accused of playing to lose in order to face easier opponents in future matches, drawing boos from spectators and warnings from match officials Tuesday night.

All four pairs of players were charged with not doing their best to win a match and abusing or demeaning the sport.

The Indonesian and South Korean pairs appealed the decision, the federation said, and a decision on their appeals is expected later Wednesday.

The charges result from two lackluster contests in London that angered the watching crowds as the doubles pairs appeared to be serving into the net on purpose.

My goodness, they should've just handed the basketball gold medal to Team USA when they arrived. 83 point differential...

Also I watched water polo today. That **** was not what I expected. How is it water polo if nobody's closing their eyes and yelling "Marco!"?

^I saw the score and was sitting with my mouth open. I'm glad it was Carmelo that did it, Knick and Syracuse guy.

I did watch the swimming today. I find it odd that world records are being thrashed left and right. -CSM

The 2012 Olympics are done... and in remembering all the victories, of course, we remember those who didn't do so spectacularly...

I was watching the pole vaulting when that guys pole broke up. It was scary!!!

Poor German diver!!!

And ouch!! BMX riding looks painful when you crash and burn... :D
