Baseball at the Olympics with MLB players....why not?

I keep hearing tired old arguments that MLB at the Olympics will never work. I think those arguments are a bunch of crap.

The fact is, NHL players compete in the winter games and they have an Olympic break. Why can't MLB? Are players too afraid to extend the season and play in November or March every four years? I mean those uniforms must be hot as hell in the summer; I'd think in the spring or fall they'd be quite comfortable.

You could extend the regular season by one week at each end and possibly forego the all-star break.

And baseball would be a very popular and competitive addition. It wouldn't be US dominance, especially if countries such as the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Japan field teams, and Mexico, Venezuela, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea would field competitive teams from time to time as well.

No MLB in the Olympics has always hurt the American teams, but the Olympics is just another money event. You can say it's a matter of National Pride, but I hardly think we can take credit for the efforts of the athletes. I do think contractual obligations NOT to play in other events are utter bull****, but hell if I can figure out why anyone thinks the US has a fair or rational legal system anyway.
I muttered 'light as a board, stiff as a feather' for 2 days straight and now I've ascended, ;aughing at olympus and zeus is crying

Well, I suppose this year it's kind of a moot point, since there is no baseball in the Olympics at all. :P

They cut it because there were only like 9 countries that actually participated. I doubt allowing professionals would do a lot to change that, so it would probably just end up getting cut again.

I have a feeling that more countries play baseball than do cricket. -CSM
