(CNN) -- NASCAR driver Tony Stewart hit and killed another driver who was walking on a track during a dirt-track race in upstate New York, authorities said early Sunday.

Kevin Ward Jr., 20, died from injuries suffered in the incident, which occurred Saturday night at the Empire Super Sprints series event at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park.

People are actually defending Stewart and that blows my mind. That's the NASCAR crowd for you, I suppose.

This is really crazy and sad.

And yeah like yesterday for the two seconds I could muster up to actually watch ESPN I heard somebody say what a good idea it was for Tony Stewart to not race yesterday.

Yeah good job Tony Stewart not racing a car the day after you **** kill somebody. You should get a medal.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

Well that's the same ESPN that considered Ray Rice's 2-games for beating his girlfriend the harshest of harshness, so I'm not surprised.

Yeah this gave me a sick feeling when I first head about it.

Do you mean they're saying he didn't actually hit anyone, or they're talking about intention, because I don't think the latter can be proven any direction by any random person on the internet

If you guys honestly think Stewart hit him on purpose you are sick. There is little way to tell that Stewart sped up around the corner because that noise could have come from any Sprintcar.

Seriously.[DOUBLEPOST=1407834633,1407834523][/DOUBLEPOST]I mean if you watched the video of it actually happening. If you just read the story then jeez. Wow

That's not a video I want to watch. But I heard that in said video you can see him speed up. Hopefully there's a deeper investigation.

Regardless, the fact that the guy killed a man on a track and then fully intended to race the next day is baffling.

There is a police investigation, but they haven't found any reason to pursue criminal charges so far. I'd trust that over a second hand account of a video.
